Any good on a ZX-9R? I can't get my hands on the usual 207RRs at the
moment and someone's offered me some very lightly used ex-race Pirellis
    cheap.

    No idea.

But I'd question using right now on two points:

    1. They're ex-race so may have been through one very high heat cycle too
many and may have lost a bit of grip; and
    2. It's getting cold out there. New race compound tyres will prolly grip
less than road compound stuff let alone used ones cos they wont get into
their proper heat/grip range type thingy

My (rather simplistic) recommendation: buy 'em if they're cheap, but don't
fit 'em til April and use some Macadams or D205s over winter...

Why not run AV45/46ST's (which run good from cold) then get them taken
off in the spring? Put them back on next winter..

They aren't that bad, not totally shagged. I am getting them from a
fairly close friend who used them for practice sessions. he has a few
sets he sells to mates. He says they've done about 10 laps, which I can
    believe.
    I realise this.
Macadams, or 205s? Are you having a fucking laugh, you ****? I want
tyres that grip in the wet, not last all fucking year. I know the
Pirellis won't be any good in the wet, so I'm fitting a new D207 to the
rear for winter as I already have a nearly new D207 on the front, then
putting the Pirellis on next spring when these two are shagged.

I wouldn't dream of putting Macadams on anyone's bike, not even Des'.

You really shouldn't say things like that when I have the complete
bodywork from your SZR sitting in my garden waiting to be painted.

Not a bad idea, but I already have a decent enough front tyre that will
see winter out. I'll lob a matching rear on and do the Pirelli thing in
    spring

    Good plan.

I need to sort the SZR top gasket this weekend so I can let the ZRX
    snooze.

    Mmmm winter bike.

Sounds fair, I suspect we'd take seven shades of shit out of each other,
not a good plan.... So, who, or what, are we sacrificing?

  18. I don't know if you've seen FWR lately, but they've got some old stock
    they're "throwing away".

    http://www.fwr.co.uk/clearance.htm

I'm tempted to go down there and get a set of something cheap for the
    coming months.

Anything on there I *shouldn't* buy? A lot of the links don't have
    pictures, see.
