New ISP. Happy bunny.
Some probs connecting, due to the Mac's settings rather than what they sent me as DNS etc But it's as fast as 8MB should be (OK, 5-6MB in reallity as I'm rather a distance from the exchange). Time will tell as regards service levels.
The Older Gentleman secured a place in history by writing: I get 5-6Mb (note: not M*B*) and I can spit on my exchange from the bedroom window. No-one gets better than 6Mb IME.
I'm about 1.5 miles from the exchange, am on Sky's ADSL2 offering and get a sync of 14.9M, and between 8 and 11M throughput depending on time of day. Not bad for £10/month.
ginge secured a place in history by writing: Well, OK, I was kinda excluding ADSL2. Which I can't be bothered to pay the extra £5 for, I really don't do anything that needs it at the moment.
I'm on a crap line[1], and get a 10-12M sync, and a solid 1MB download. A mate who lives practically in his exchange gets the full 24MB on ADSL2. [1] The crow-flies distance to exchange isn't too bad, but I can imagine the route is anything but direct given the age of the surrounding houses.

Emphatically not waving, still every time they **** up I end up getting another free month as a 'sorry' gesture. The new equipment does seem to be making a difference.
None apparent. I seem to be getting through ~50Gb a month without comment, then there's throughput from another three to add to that.
I wonder if ours will be as smooth. I phoned for our MAC number today and she tried to put me through to tech support so I told her where to go and just give me a MAC number. will be e-mailed in 3-5 days aparently. guess i'll have to wait and see. Adie
Wow that is good then. I wonder if they do my area/house.[/QUOTE] That is a very good question. Their post code checker http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/availability/get-address.do told me I could get cable, so I signed up. They offer money back after 30 days if not satisfied - or they did, anyway. Afetr a week of silence I phoned sales, to be told I wasn't in an enabled area after all. So sorry. Then a month later they nicked £83 out of my account. Took me a while to get it back too.
