  2. So I have to get an aviation license just to fly a model airplane?

  5. "All unmanned aircraft, not just ones that weigh 15lb (7kg) or more, now
have to be licensed to conduct aerial surveillance work after the law
changed at the start of the year.

They need CAA permission to fly within 164ft (50m) of people and within
    492ft (150m) of buildings.

The CAA said any breach in regulations, which came into force on 1
January 2010, would be "treated seriously". "

I'd not be surprised if this is yet another piece of European shite law
to bring the UK and others into harmony with Germany.
Something like 70% of new local legislation is nothing more than the
passing on the nod of EU regulations. Quite suprised me, that did.
Problem with most of it is, that it always seems to be a bit more
restrictive than what we had previously and introduce new licences
and/or paid permits for something that was free before.

    [snip]

and you actually have a problem with surveillance having to be
    licensed/regulated?

How much for a licence for one of these then?

    Sounds good to me
Yep, sounds very good to me
    Sounds even better
So what if it is ?
It is, for once, a useful piece of legislation IMO

  12. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Pip
Bearing in mind the CAA's reputed motto of "we're not happy until you're
not happy", this one could be interesting.

I was watching the snowboard cross last night and incidents happening
"in the berm" kept me greatly amused.

hah. I was watching some of the winter olympics, and that downhill
skiing thing with all of the bumps (moguls?) looks painfully hard on
the knees. I'm just keeping an eye out for the women's curling - most
    erotic sport there is.

It is, especially when icy. Hence a recent knee op.
Competitors reckon on their knees being borked by 40.

I had to keep a sick bag handy for the repeated hand wringing over a dead
    "Slider".

IIRC the Air Navigation Order begins with the words "No aircraft shall
    fly..."

  18. Not at all, but that won't and doesn't stop it happening anyway.
I can see there will be a call for, or an introduction of, paid for
licences for currently unlicenced miniature aircraft.

    Mark my words.

  20. In one of my larger papers I had to continually refer to a paper
by a German called Böhm -- I had to explain to my Swiss colleague why I
used the bibtex reference "clouseau" for it...
