Dropped it

    Ow.

Went to pop the bike off it's center stand today. As I started to
take the weight something went pop in my left forearm.

Bike dropped away and I couldn't do a thing. Neither could I pick it
up again. A chap nearby came running over and helped me raise the
    bike back to vertical.

Luckily no apparent damage to the bike! But my arm is really hurting.

Anything the more experienced of you think I should check might have
    broken that isn't obvious?

Brakes okay (well, no obvious leaks; still working 5 hours later ...),

    mirrors and indicators okay,
    foot pegs okay,
    rear brake lever okay,
    fairing okay,
    screen okay,
exhaust scratched on the same scratches as before,
no obvious oil leaks - level still okay 5 hours later,
chain on the wrong side to have been damaged,
tyres look okay - no bulges, scuffs etc. and pressures okay,
bars and levers are okay, switchgear haven't checked it all but I
    think it's alright.

Anything else you can think I should check? Only problem was that it
wouldn't turn over after being dropped. Took about 5 attempts to
start. But I suspect that was just the fuel draining out the carb?

    Thanks for any advice!

Not good. You probably want to have that checked over by a member of
    the medical profession, you do.
So far, looking good. Stationary drops normally don't do a lot of
invisible damage, if any at all.
Probably - remind me, what bike is it again?

Indeed. It's not swollen though, which I hope is a good sign!

    GPZ500 - so not exactly fragile :)

    Thanks!

I think you're spot on that the carbs drained.

I'm not clear here, are you saying the engine wouldn't turn over at all,
or it would spin, but not start?

I apologise for my poor use of terminology!

The starter spun the engine okay, but it wouldn't catch. Hmm, that
    still doesn't make it clear.

The starter spun the engine, but it wouldn't fire - wouldn't continue
running of it's own (non-starter assisted) violition. Lack of fuel or
sparks. Probably. So I had the suck and the squeeze, but not the
    bang so no blow )

    How's that?

    Thanks

That's fine and that's good. What you want to watch for is when you hit
the button and get a nasty solid "clunk". That's a hydraulic lock and is
    Not A Good Thing.

I didn't think that was likely in the circumstances you described, but I
    thought I'd check.

After all, if you'd had one, it would be a shame to miss the opportunity
    to point and laugh... ;^)

One arm isn't working - what do you expect!!
Cool, I learnt something new today. Only things I could think of that
wouldn't compress were oil and water. Suppose it figures that petrol
wouldn't either really since it's just another oil really ...

I can see that this is going to be difficult.

Of course it's a fucking metal.

Doesn't stop it being liquid, does it?

Get some lead. Warm it up a bit. What does it do?

    Exactly.

Salad Dodger fascinated us all by saying...
If it's in my mate's mums kitchen it explodes destroying her new Hygena
units, cos you've not washed the battery acid off the lead. This happens
after you've nicked all the Vauxhall Viva and Mini batteries in the
village and are melting them down into nice easily transported lumps of
lead to sell to the local scrappy.

Nice one Flid, kept us amused for months that did

exactly what? It expands, as does almost any solid or liquid. But
whether in solid or liquid form, it's not 'compressible' to any
realistic extent. The amount of energy needed to do so is several
orders of magnitude above that required for gasses, so in the usual
sense of the word, it's not 'compressible'.

    Ooooh, the Science Bit!

Thanks for that. I knew oil wouldn't (e.g. suspension forks) and for
some reason I remembered my old chemistry teacher showing us a syringe
and saying something stupid like "water is one of the few liquids that
won't compress". Or maybe it was "will compress", since IIRC water is
at it's densest at 277K [1] ... unlike me, where I am at my densest at
    2139UTC ...

Mind you, this was the same school where the Physics teacher tried to
tell us that the atomic *mass* indicated the number of protons in an
    element ...

[1] Very small - I looked it up and max compression would reduce the
depth of Loch Ness by less than a foot. Pretty much incompressible
    ...
