So having been out of the dual sport world for 20+ yrs, whats good,
    and whats not?

This is for the Super Tenere...

look familiar? He is now Justbikeless. Maggie is also Maggiebikeless.

    21 front 17 rear.

These dont look bad but are probably more road orientated than I'd
    like. http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/distanzia

But then same for Dunlop, Metz, Michy, Bridgestone etc :(

Would like something I could use offroad if i really wanted to, but
    not knobbys..

    Assuming you want a 70/30 tyre have a look at;
    Mitas E-07
    Metzeler Enduro 3 Sahara
    Heidenau K60

    Mitas is probably the cheapest.
I am currently running a Enduro 3 on the front and a E-07 on the rear
    of a DR650

    Cheers,

    Heidenau K60s, both ends.
Or, for longer life at the rear, use their K76 (more road-oriented, but more
    dirt-grip than similar-looking Anakees/Tourance/ etc etc).
The K60 is not as coarse as Conti TKC80 and doesn't hop around or display
the fairly rotten wet-behaviour on sealed roads.

It's all a bit hard to say, as everyone has different requirements, does
more/less dirt... wants to do this or that.
    Commuters/ tourers/ dirt-rats...
Generally, whatever is gained in the dirt, is lost on the tar...and
    viceversa.

They look quite decent in road/offroad... Hmm intereting.
I had the impression that the TKC80 maybe a little average on the road
    with the large voids..
Agree... Not sure what Im going to do yet, dont even kjnow if I have
the Kahunas to go on the road again :(

    agree

I use them on my BMW R1200GSA and my R100GSPD, they work very well on
    bitumen.
