    By the way, to the several people who said that a 50% ratio was 1:2, it
    isn't. It's 1:1.

    Ratios are valued by converting them to fractions (or so my math teacher
    taught).

    a 1:2 ratio is therfore a fraction of 1/2

    50% of 1 (where 1 is the original cost being 100%) is 1/2

    I still don't see what I'm doing wrong sorry ( I freely admit I was
    probably asleep during this bit of maths so feel free to explain).

  13. Nah. Sounds obvious (and I freely admit I was one who fell into that
    trap) but if you were to mix oil and water in a 1:2 ratio you would have
    a total of 3 parts - one part oil and two parts water (hence the 1:2
    ratio). Therefore 1/3 of your mix would be oil and 2/3 would be water.
