  1. Ebay item 110496470898

ST3, so not the most desirable Ducati by a long way, no panniers, dented
and scratched tank, no MoT, and the twonk thinks it's worth well over
    three grand....

To be fair, he has offered to MOT it (I can never understand why people
don't MOT bikes before advertising them). The tank could be repaired and
painted (or replaced via ebay) for, say, £200. The rest of the bike seems
to be in good nick and it only has 12,000 miles on it. The £3,100 is a BIN
price but the bike is being auctioned. In my experience the BIN is often a
bit more that the seller expects to get from the auction. So, for the buyer
could end up with a good ST3 for £3,300 or less. The only other ST3
currently on ebay is 220550335624, which has 15,750 miles on it, no panniers
and a classified ad price of £3,645.

A quick check on autotrader shows no ST3 under £4,000, except for the same
£3,645 one referred to above one that is also advertised on ebay. There are
two 12,000 mile plus bikes without panniers being advertised at circa
    £4,500.

Maybe he isn't so far of the mark after all.

  3. No, nor can I. Stupid.
And that's a dealer price, and it ain't sold. Yet.
Bet they're dealer prices, too. And £4.5k really is a joke - you could
get an ST4S for less than that.
All the ST3s that I've seen that actually *sold* (privately) seemed to
    go for £2000-2500.

I mean, look at item 270536545449. That's a ST4, low miles, no panniers,
lovely nick, T&T and no bids even at an SP of £2300. Ok, so it's in
    Ayrshire but even so.

A bottle of wine in France says that the ST3 doesn't sell at that price.
Of course the seller might take a lower offer and pull the auction, so I
    suppose we'll never know.

Well I wouldn't really expect it to sell at the BIN price. The real test of
the vendor's grip on reality is whether or not he has set a realistic
    reserve.

  5. Oh yes, absolutely. Silly BIN figures just put me off, as a buyer.
