I have AA Cover via a Lloyds Premier account.

Not sure if that includes legal cover, although the bank account may
    come with that anyway.

That was my initial reaction but on reflection I think I would wait to see
how contrite the leader of the raid is when he calls. They should have a
system for organising reparation as this won't be the first time this has
occurred. No harm in trying to foster a harmonious relationship with local
    plod.

If they have a DGAF attitude then **** them. Initiate a formal complaint
and seek compensation via an ambulance chasing lawyer.

I don't think either of them offer a legal service now, not since they were
demutualised. Unless you buy a separate policy from a sister company, as
part of your motor insurance, of course.
    or your house/vehicle insurance

Don't let this drop Steve, The stupid wankers should be held to account.

Plan is to see what they have to say for themselves this week, then look
at my legal cover - I'm sure I have it on the bike policy.

I'd take the opposite approach and encourage the plod make as many faux
pas as possible and use these as examples to persuade our legislators to
    curtail police powers. ;-)

Oh I would be surprised if you had any idea (1) how utterly incompetent they
can be and the utter chaos that can arise from (rather obviously) malicious
    and even anonymous reports.

I can think of 3 UKRM's who became expert in these matters recently. Steve
    makes 4.

    (1) well, I hope you don't

For starters, establish if they actually had a search warrant, that'll
lead to a whole audit trail of who approved what.

  9. Probably a good job you didn't take the advice on here of immediately
    invoking vigilante violence, then.

Too late to worry, there's precious little of either left.

I'm not sure if 'Hog is including me and my recent brush with the law in
that UKRM three but I was well aware before then that almost all coppers
    are total pricks.

On the whole, the kind of people who want to be a police officer
shouldn't be allowed to be a police officer.

So where do you think democracy has been eroded most?

The introduction of single party elections?
The removal of the vote for people of a certain race?
The removal of the vote for women?

If you're not happy then either stand for election so you can try to
change things or **** off somewhere else. Most of the people who post
here are reasonably intelligent and have useful skills so there's no
reason for them not to take a hike if they feel unable to live here
given the current state of the country.

That'd be how I'd try to handle it. Give them a chance to replace the
door, let them carry on keeping the bike in a safe place for me and
wait for the personal apology from a senior officer. It's never easy
to score points off plod so if you get the chance to bank some then
    they should be taken.
If they went that way I'd initiate the formal complaint then get on
the phone to a few tabloids. I can't see there being much financial
compensation to be gained by using an ambulance chaser so I'd go for
    the public humiliation approach.

why bother? Most people don't actually understand what "democracy"
means; your average bloke on the street would appear to think that
everyone should have a direct say in everything.

same with MPs, senior civil servants, and high-ranking union
