I'll try and dig out the article - it wouldn't be the first time I've
spouted bollocks around these parts, but pretty sure that's what it
    alluded to.

    Bear with me...

  2. Blimey. How did you work that one? Worth knowing, just in case, etc etc.

I'm thinking about spending what Blaney has, where Blaney has.

    No luck.

Hmmm... definitely read something that made me think 'WTF?' when it
came to low incomes in the States recently.

May well have been what you've suggested above.

If I find the article, I'll post the URL up in due course.

  7. Could it have been the employer paid wages to a waiter/ess, that tops
up the tips to meet minimum wages?

I don't even know if that sort of thing would be an option for me, as
despite tons of current knowledge and 15+ yrs experience a degree is
    probably needed for green cards.

Plus if I went I'd have to buy a gun becasue I could, then would
    likely shoot myself by accident.

  9. Buy the lot next door. It'd be great.

I'd be very surprised if you couldn't just transfer.

No, it was definitely some State wide average wage thing.

I wiped the cache (1) on my Cackberry the other day - suspect I'd read
    it on that (2).

    (1) Necessary evil every now and again.
    (2) I read a lot of articles on the Guardian, Telegraph and
Independent sites on that when I've been away from home.

Don't be. The only internal transfers people are getting at the
moment are to places like India, Slovakia, Brazil, Russia, the Middle
East, in fact any of the locations they're classing as growth markets.
But (and here's the gotcha) the deals are one way transfers, paid on
    local salary bands.

There's simply an over supply of expensive US and European workers now
so much work is going global.

'Will I be charged for storage?'

    'No, because it was stolen'

Don't ask me to explain, though.

  14. Especially seeing as they're digging the hole anyway, right? So digging
it a bit deeper and then fitting some pre-fabbed concrete walls
couldn't be that much more expensive.

We seem to build far too many houses within the extended floodplains of
rivers these days - so it's highly likely this can't be done as they'd
    be digging into sodden ground.

Should that happen again, the cellar item can be retrofitted:

Why, yes, I do have one :)

  19. they seem to manage it okay over here (remember that a good deal of
this country is below sea level).

In fact, in the time I was stateside the town just up the road went and
go itself an underground multistorey car park.

  20. I'm not bothering with a cellar, but all that above, yes.
