Im more amazed that at no point does it occur to him to go over and
check if they're still alive, instead he starts an off the cuff news report.

    That's because he's a journalist, not a human being.

Which also explains how he manages to say "Oh my gosh", instead of "****

Some of them really are scum. A mate of mine was killed in a car crash
a few years ago and some scumbag press photographer stood taking
pictures while a bystander used his fire extinguisher to douse the
flames and try to save the guy.

  7. Real I reckon. The TV news guy was a bit near for a start, didn't have
any sort of protective gear on (even a stuntman would have some sort of
padding on or helmet or something).

This explains the actions of a lot of car drivers too, looking at the
world through a window frame. It's all like a video game, and they can
    distance themselves from it.

Yeh, maybe it's a place where lots of crashes happen anyway, and the
'news' people were just sitting like vultures, waiting for it t happen?

    Kin right on mate.

Every location equipment list I have seen has a fire extinguisher on it.
Personally I take the powder ones as they look much better on film. The
CO2 ones are good as well but they don't really last very long and you
really need to shoot a good 20 seconds of the actually discharge to even
half guarantee a good shot with fucking amateurs dancing about in the
    shot.

How a junction like that with a very clear line of sight gets a
reputation as dangerous says a lot about the standard of
driving. There are at least 3 mistakes in my opinion.

    1) the guy in the saloon is letting the white van that is
crossing from the other direction do his driving for him, as in,
Oh a big white van has just crossed so it must be OK for me to
    cross.
    2) Saloon pulls out with the line of sight obstructed.
    3) The approaching truck that hits him has just seen one vehicle
cross in front and, had he been paying attention, would have
seen there was another car waiting to cross and should have
    slowed down.

I would hazard a guess that the saloon car driver was distracted and
looking in the direction of the TV crew too.
