DVLA Question

  1. A mate of mine is very ill with acute appendicitis and has consequently
overlooked registering his RG500 as off road (he blew the engine last year
while we were out for a ride and it's been in his garage since then awaiting
parts). As I'd been to see him today I took the V11 and other info and
registered it online for him. However his tax expired at the end of Sept and
the DVLA site said that as there was a gap between the expiry date and the
SORN date that was automatically set at 01.11.05 they may contact him over
    the "offence".

How likely is this and is the fact he's been incapacitated since the end of
September a valid excuse if they do (following his blood test results he was
taken back into hospital today, the poor bugger can barely walk)?

That was a mistake. What you should have done is fill in a paper
document backdated to before SORN was due..... not that I'd ever do
    anything like that, of course.

But it works, allegedly, especially when combined with a photocopy which
    you send off ;-)
They've been quite easy to get around, IME.
