Dyno run yesterday...

The 620 engined 600SS went on the dyno at Gibsons yesterday, once
    they'd
managed to clear about half a dozen SO2Strokes out of the way. We tried
    to
get the current map off the PCIII but it was having none of it, saying
    that the
versions were incompatible, event though it was reading the revs,
    throttle and
whatever the other reading is without any problem. And we tried three
    different
    laptops!

Anyway, it went onto the dyno and myself and Mark backed out of the
    door.
The operator looked a bit worried by this in a "what do they know" way,
    but
we reassured him that it should hold together. "How far do you run it
    up?"
he asked. "Until the rev limiter comes in!" was the reply and he
    acknowledged
    it with a grin.

He ran it through the gears and then whacked it open from idle three
    times,
which were the actual dyno runs so I later found out. The bike sounded
a little bit too throaty, like it wasn't fuelled right, but Mitch the
    Mechanic
from TecMoto who had stayed in the dyno room gave us "two thumbs up"
    from what he saw.

Looking at the runs, they said it was spot on. "Don't touch it!" were
    his
actual words. They had run another 620SS racer on the dyno the week
before and they overlaid his graph with mine - I was up by 3bhp
    throughout
the curve and with no big hole at 6k rpm either (with around 8bhp
    difference)
    so I was quite chuffed.

Originally the engine had an £800 hand-made exhaust system on it
but this had not been purchased, so we were worried about the
    difference
as we'd just fitted standard 900SS headers (£30) and DP carbon
    exhausts
(£120) both second hand off ebay. As it turned out, we'd lost less
    than
one bhp compared to the previous graph, and you could probably put that
    down to dyno calibration.

The final figure is 62.5bhp at the rear wheel with one very flat torque
    curve.
It's not going to set the world alight, but that's 20% more power than
    last year!

Roll on sunday at Cadwell :-D

Cheers. I guess you're doing the UKRM trackday? I might book
up and bring both bikes along (calendar permitting) if you fancy
    a crack on the 600/620.

PS. Still two tickets left for Cadwell if anyone wants them!

Heh, reminds me of the old about IT Consultants that ends up with:
"Everything you told me is technically correct, but it's of no use to
    anyone."

If I'd have wanted one of those I could have bought one, but as
they're not legible for the race series I bought this instead.

  10. Indeed - obviously not fast enough to race big bikes.
I mean, even an untuned Bandit 600 makes more BHP than that, doesn't it?

    Lol, you pair of clowns.

"Hello, is that Pablo Nieto? Ah yes, a couple of guys from the
internet say you're shit because your bike makes less power
than an untuned Bindit, so I guess you better give up now."

Ant, 62.5 -20% is about what my GS does as stock. Why are you so pleased
    with it?

It won't be much faster than that I don't suppose.

It's not the dyno figure, it's the fact that it didn't blow up on the
    dyno that he's pleased about.

Ginge timed me at 3 secs a lap slower than Champ with us both on
GSXR1000K1s. I'd started the day 6 secs a lap slower than him, so I'm
told. Not bad for my first ever time taking a bike on a track.
