    I was on the beta program for Office 2007, and the justification for
    the ribbon was that over 50% of the feature requests MS were getting
    for Office were for things that were *already* in the product! i.e.
    the drop-down menu mechanism just didn't work with the 300+ features
    that something like Word has.

    Personally, after a couple of weeks I was fine with the ribbon, and
    quite like it now.
