It's incredible isn't it. I've yet to talk to anyone who wants the damn
things. I suppose as an MP she's used to talking to retards though.

I had a discussion with a left leaning MP (my sort of left) who is
personally opposed to ID cards who said a good proportion of his
constituents see them as a good idea and want them.

Even my own MP has said that she regularly gets people saying that the
Gov't is not strong enough on security.

Has anyone actually written to their MP or told them they're not happy
with the whole ID cards idea?

Heh, whilst I agree with your sentiments, I reckon that within 5 years
you'll all be carrying them and you'll not have any choice.

If the UK government doesn't oblige you, then the EU will.

Your ID cards will also carry fingerprints (from all digits on both
hands and other useful bits of biometric info).

Future ID cards will have retina prints, ear profiles, 3D facial profiles
    and digitised DNA profiles.

Cards may be limited to ID to start off with, but then it'll be expanded
to social security, health, health insurance companies, DVLA, driving insurance
companies, banks, building societies, credit rating agencies, etc, etc. The
excuse will be something along the lines that the system is so expensive to
run, that outside commercial support is required. You may not be required to
carry them initially, but when the system does expand, you'll be forced to, as
you'll not be able to do anything without the card.

You'll probably find that the card will replace your driving licence, NI card,
E111, etc. All your details (such as health, credit status, criminal record,
etc) will be stored on the card and in a central database.

(You may be lucky and the supermarkets won't get at them, but they've already
got you by the bollocks with your loyalty cards).

As the cards get more advanced, you'll have RFID ID cards, which means that
the police, security services and any other government branch will be able
to check your movements wherever you are in town or country.

The problem is, that if you lose the card, you won't be able to prove who you
are and you'll be classed as a terrorist or subversive. You'll become a
non-entity in society. You'll exist but not officially. People will see you,
but look right through you. You'll need to hide with other people in the same
situation as you. Communities of non-people.

It's fairly obvious that as the government can't get them in through
the usual means, they're going to eat away at the corners, until every
    group in society has them.

<Waves> When I wrote to mine Michael Howard was the Tory leader and my MP
told me he wouldn't go against the party line (pro cards) even if his own
personal feelings were against them. Now DC is in charge he'll obviously
    vote the correct way.

Unfortunately she's a silly tart who seems to be forcing through a load of
crap which will be the bane of all our lives if it goes mainstream.

It truly beggars belief, doesn't it? Something acknowledged as pretty much
undesired by the unspoken majority (and the few amongst it who stand up to
be counted), and yet this administration just carries on regardless.

Have the other lot clarified whether or not they'd abolish them if they were
'lucky' enough to be handed the poison chalice next term?

The truly depressing thing is that she's absolutely correct, there is a
large number of people wetting themselves at the prospect of being
penned and dipped ^W^W^W sold ID cards.

    Really.

They honestly believe it will make them safer in their beds at night,
(and it really will get rid of the nig-nogs).

The thing that makes me want to puke is that the fascist who is getting
away with this shit calls herself a Labour MP ("a *LABOUR* MP*[1]), and
is apparently largely unopposed within the party, and the country.

I have this terrible feeling that in 2019, I'll feel the same way about
    Barack Obama.

    If I'm allowed to...

Yes. And the Iraq war. I got a reply that was, in some part at least,
not a copy and paste exercise but following the party Whip.

Anyway, the government survey will come from questionnaires along these
    lines:

    Q1 Would you like

    a) ID cards
    b) To be murdered by EVIL TERRORISTS.

Our Labour MP is a Sharon (literally). We have written to her several
times, to no avail. She believes that ID cards are vital to the fight
against terrorism, voted in favour of 42-day detention but, to show
how liberal she is, wishes that Guantanamo Bay wasn't necessary.

The Labour party wasn't like this when I was a lad.
