    I've been spannering my vehicles for around 34 years, & never had need
    for a stud/screw extractor until yesterday, when I needed to use them -
    twice.

    I now have two extractors snapped off inside two bleed nipples. Arse.

    I have a snap-on extractor set. The 2 and 4 mm versions broke when used
    long ago. Yesterday I tried the 6mm to remove a cheese screw from an
    alloy bar......it broke.

    On the up-side my new cobalt drills ate the extractor.

    I think not - there are far more fun ways to ****-up broken bolts.
    What's more I've just removed the calipers from the dishwasher to
    discover one of them's now cracked, thanks to said extractor. Which I
    guess means it's junk even if I could get the extractor & nipple
    remains out.
    Yebbut he's a ****.

    I'm glad it's not just me being a ham-fisted twat then.
    I don't think I'll even try drilling them out, given the importance of
    the seat for bleed nipples. Time for a trip to an engineer methinks -
    or just swallowing the shipping cost of getting new calipers from
    Mercania.

    The extractor was the last resort, having already tried:

    1. Soaking in Plusgas for several days.
    2. Heating with a blow torch.
    3. Cutting a slot in the end & using an impact driver.
    4. Calling it a cunting pile of shite & vowing to track down whoever
    had previously rounded it off & torturing them for eternity.

    I suspect sub-consciously I was hoping it would ****-up, thus giving me
    the excuse to buy a nice new set of stainless-sleeved O-ring calipers.

    Hmm. "Broken screw extractors", eh? Krusty already has two of them.

    And it's "shear" not "sheer", "sheared" not "sheered", not to mention
    it should be "an" not "and", followed by "any" rather than "and" btw.

    How this semi-literate has accumulated so much pos feeback is beyond
    me.

    Worth their weight in gold is a good engineer with a workshop full of
    gadgets. I know one in Halesowen who has got me out of trouble a
    couple of times. Very good at drilling out screws. He also helped me
    continue vto get a sprag clutch apart once the broken screw had been
    removed. Not apparent from the book of lies how to do it, particularly
    when it had been made difficult by someone (not me) assembling it with
    one screw missing and skewing the cover plate. He pulled out the
    remains of the retaining spring and rollers and pressed the persuaded
    the plate out with a small press.

    Surprises me, does that, because I've discovered that if you get a
    caliper/nipple really, *really* hot, then it will always come undone
    cleanly. I don't touch a bleed nipple, these days, without giving it
    serious welly from a blowtorch. Unless I know I've had it out myself
    recently, and used some Copaslip on refitting.

    Still on calipers, as I might have mentioned here, my Ducati's finally
    getting near pad replacement time, after well over nine years and
    28,000 miles.... For some reason, those Brembo four-pot calipers never
    seem to seize up. My local Duke dealer confirms that: says he has no
    idea what they make the pistons out of, but they don't corrode.

    This is just as well, as Brembo doesn't supply rebuild kits for them,
    for product liability reasons. We've mentioned this here before, as
    the same calipers are used on some BMWs. So if something does go
    wrong, you need to buy whole new calipers, at £140 each.

    Four, ignition points for the Z650...

    In the listing for the RH bar the last word on the top line of the
    description is "possible", where it should read "possibly".

    About the right price, tbh. I don't think I paid much
    more than that for the ones I bought not so long ago.

    I've still got all of the road kit for the 600 if
    there is anything you need ... headlight, rear
    light, clocks and a few more bits and pieces.

    Oh, and I also have a pair of OEM 750SS fairing
    panel stickers that I picked up for you if you
    send me an address to mail them to.
