Ebay International Postage

When I make something available 'worldwide', the only option for non-UK
postage cost is 'same for everyone' (or words to that effect). Which is
obviously a bit wank to put it mildly. E.g. the Tiger silencers I've
listed will cost £50 to France but £100 to the U.S.

So if I put £100 as the international postage cost to cater for the
Yanks/Aussies etc, the Western Europeans are going to think '****
that'. If I put £50, & some Yank buys them & pays straight away without
waiting for the invoice (with amended postage), I could have a battle
on my hands to get the rest & trashed feedback.

I used the U.S. rate for the Haynes manuals as that wasn't enough to
put off the Europeans, but three manuals went to Europe, & they all
paid instantly, so I've now had to do partial refunds on the postage.
OK technically I didn't /have/ to, but I did anyway.

Is there some hidden setting in the Ebay options to let you use
multiple postage rates by continent? If not, what do other people
    generally do?

I have my listings set up to block bidders from outside the UK. If someone
really wants something sent abroad they contact me and I quote postage for them
and add them to my exemption list.

I say I will ship worldwide, but don't quote a price. When someone
asks, I pick a price from experience, and generally add 20-25%,
pointing out that I can't give an accurate quote until the item is
fully packed. And, in any case, some people buy more than one item and
    want it sent together.

I add that I will refund any surplus by PayPal but if, for some
reason, it's more than I've quoted, I will ask for more dosh before I
    ship.

People seem quite happy with that, and my feedback reflects the
pleasure with which buyersgreet their refunds. Haven't had to ask for
    more dosh yet.

Unless I've missed something, you can't make a listing available
worldwide without including an international postage cost? Do you just
rely on foreigners searching on ebay.co.uk?

When I buy from eBay, it says "shipping to Spain". Dunno if that means you
    can choose or not.

I leave the International Postage field on 'Same cost to all buyers'.

I leave the international 'Post to' and 'Services' and 'Cost' fields
    blank.

Under that it says 'Additional post to locations - buyers contact for
costs'. I set the field to 'Will post worldwide' and tick all the
boxes underneath. That's how it works for me.

Aha! Didn't realise you could leave the fields blank. Thanks for that,
it'll save me bloody hours listing the rest of my Huge Pile of Dross.

Strangely, Mr Cunty the Negger didn't mention that I'd already refunded
£3 of the postage costs (operating a similar "guess and refund if you're
out" approach) in the negative feedback that he gave me

You know the feedback you left him, did you know that you could leave a follow
    up comment on that too?

Well, the feedback he left me has now been modified from -ve to +ve.

I'm tempted to leave it now as I can't be arsed to determine exactly
what I can do to ensure that I can comment and he can't **** it up for me.

In truth, I wish I'd left it as it was and simply made a comment, as I
don't really think one neg would make that much difference and trying to
sort it wasted a lot of time.

He's not coming off my blocked bidders list though
