If he didn't realise he'd lost it until he got back to the airport 55
miles away, it's not surprising he didn't just drive back without
checking it was there & there'd be someone in first.

Seems par for the course when selling cheap vehicles on ebay. I've only
sold one - the winning bidder never made contact then neg'd me saying
    the car was a ringer.

So I did the 2nd chance offer thingy, agreed a price, bloke drove over
from the other side of the country with several mates & tried to knock
a few hundred off the price. I told them to pay the agreed price or
bugger off, so they left, then rang half an hour later to say they'd
have it at the agreed price after all. Cunts the lot of 'em.

    I'm dreading selling the Jeep...

I sold my Jeep to an Antarctic seaman, i could have sold it to ten folk in
the same time frame, i even made £250 or so on the thing :)

Ah, when you said "if he hadn't rang me on a withheld number" I thought
you meant after he'd lost it, & you didn't answer as it was withheld.

  8. This is why I'll happily pay a premium (as in, charge/accept less) for
not having to deal with fuckwits.
    Sell it to Nige.

    reputation.

    Two recent experiences:

K75: Sold with two week's T&T plus clear 'no working brake light'
    statement.
    - Buyer didn't complete. When I issued non-paying bidder he negged
claiming 'not as described' (odd he hadn't looked at it). eBay didn't
    GAF.

(crashed) Corsa; sold as running but needing wing/bonnet/headlight.
    Clear pictures of damage.
    - Winning bidder 'lost job' and couldn't complete.
    - Under bidder lost job a month after accepting.
Ended up scrapping it and making more money for the metal.

Don't think I'll ever sell a snotter on ebay again, can't be bothered
    with the idiots.

To be fair if i had his number i would have waited for about 30 mins to make
sure it cost him in fuel, but i would have rung him.

I've only sold one car on eBay, thank God, and that was my dead
    Primera with the blown turbo.

As regards ringers, I'm still slightly irritated that the bloke who
really *did* try and sell me a ringer (althouigh, to be fair, I don't
think he knew it was) managed to cancel my feedback in which I said it
was a ringer. So some other poor bugger bought it.

I've knocked down people on price myself, but only when it was
entirely justified. Like the GN250 - when I got there, the exhaust was
utterly fucked. The bottom of the silencer was split down the seam and
one of the double-skinned headers had corroded right through the outer
skin (it actually fell apart when I later removed it). I told the
seller that a fault like this really should have been mentioned in the
    description.

People - not this seller, but certainly others - seem to take the view
that if they don't mention a fault, then it's entirely the buyer's
problem. I take the view that if you know your buyer is relying
entirely on your description and pictures and can't view the vehicle
because it might be 200 miles away, then you can't insist the deal
goes ahead if it's got some glaring defect you 'forgot' to mention.

I'm half tempted to hang onto the Jeep until the first signs of snow
next winter then stick a new MOT on it & advertise it locally.

I sold my pug on ebay. Fielded a couple of calls from canvassers and the
odd stupid email, but it ultimately went for six times what I was hoping
for and the buyer came round, paid cash and took it away within a couple
    of days, no quibbles.
