eBay

  1. Is it just me, or does anyone else find it utterly infuriating using
    eBay to look for bikes?

It's just FULL of shite brand x bikes and scooters and kids' quads.

Not only that, but the cunts who sell such shit fling them into every
fucking category. eBay really needs to look perhaps at filtering some
    of these auctions.

Seriously. Who buys that kind of crap. The bike equivolents of Kia,
    Hyundai and Daewoo. Worse even!

  5. It doesn't take much effort to set up some searches that email me when
something that fits your criteria comes up.

If you want to scan through hundreds of ads, fine. I don't see much
difference between doing it with a print classified section and doing it
on a screen, to be honest.

Yep. I'm trying to find a SOB [1] for the winter and it's proving
harder than I imagined through eBay. If ever you need prove that having
a recent MOT != roadworthy, eBay's the place to look.
Yeah, annoying. I've found that setting up 4 separate saved searches
for the 4 big Jap manufacturers, and limiting them to a 20 mile radius
limits the crap I have to wade through.

[1] If anyone wants to sell me one in the Notts/Derby area, let me know.

Depending on the miles and kind of riding you're doing, it sounds like
you need a new 'brand x' import ;-)

On a slightly different but still eBay related subject; how dodgy is it
if the V5 isn't in the owner's name? The seller in question reckons he
took the bike in part-ex about 6 weeks ago because it was easier than
selling his race bike. Since it's the seller's responsibility to send
the form in these days, it seems a bit strange.

Ha! Funnily enough when you were posting about yours it did sound quite
interesting. Is it still going then? Much fallen off or broken?

I'm not really in a position to comment on long-term reliability, given
that it's still showing less than 500 miles. (This is the first weekend
I've been at home for more than a month). However, nothing has broken,
rusted (It's been out on salted roads a couple of times) or fallen off.
The worst issue I've had was a blown main fuse, but that was partially
my fault for using an under-specced fuse when I built it after blowing
the original one being careless with battery leads.

TMack is the person to speak to, he's done loads more miles on his than
    I have on mine.

  12. Some people like to get the V5 because it's one fewer name on the
logbook, and their name doesn't appear anywhere on the history. This
will also have something to do with the Inland Revenue monitoring the
Swansea computer for people buying and selling loads of vehicles.

There are ways and means of getting the entire V5, if you apply a bit of
    creative social engineering. DAMHIKIJK,OK?

I wouldn't worry too much, as long as you do an HPI check.

I've sold mine now but I had no problems with it while I had it. I was
using it as a commuter. I sold it because my workplace was relocated and
the best route to the new location involves about 6 miles of dual
carriageway where most cages are doing around 80mph - it wasn't quite fast
enough for doing that on a regular basis. It could do an indicated 80 plus
but it took forever to get there. However, I enjoyed it while I had it and
nothing broke or fell off. I reckon as a round-town commuter these cheap
Chinese bikes are quite good value for money. Buy one for £600 and use it
for 3 years and thats £200 per year. You would lose more than that in
    depreciation on a Japanese equivalent.

My current ride to work hack is an old Suzuki LS650. Top speed isn't that
much more (high 80s) but it gets there a lot more quickly so it is
reasonably comfortable among the high(ish) speed traffic.
