    That's not leadership, that's argument.

Of course it is. And what exactly is "rationale" thought?

You're as bad as Hog. To "mandate" something does not mean to make it
    compulsory.

"a mandate from the electorate": permission to disregard manifesto
    committments

    "Mandate": a '70s aftershave

"Mandate": an American gay porn mag

Quite. For leadership, you need a stadium full of banners, and lots of
    shouty obedience.
    Call that a rationalisation?

Well they're certainly not going to be much more efficient in
out-of-town driving. We were vaguely looking at it's larger sibling,
the Lexus rx400h, and concluded that for the majority of what we'd
want it for it would burn just asmuch fuel as the normal-powered
    rx350.

Wouldn't the ideal solution be to design a power station that can burn
    the tree-huggers?

Mandate can mean command as a noun, and mandatory as an adjective
means compulsory. As a verb, however, mandate means simply to commit
or allow. Having said that, the misuse is so common nowadays I imagine
    the dictionaries will change. [1]

[1] My Concise Oxford Dictionary is the 1960 update. Looking at your
source I see the new meaning is already there. AskOxford says the
same. Ho hum! So I'm wrong.

no, IIRC, the environmental cost to build the thing + eventually scrap
it is much higher than for a normal car.

I realised what you meant, but was just pointing out that for many
people the actual running cost would also be as high or higher.

Heh. I thought you'd have recognised the name from before: "Kelly was
assigned the task of dealing with Equitable Life after the Penrose Report
into the life insurance company was published. She rejected calls for
government compensation to Equitable policyholders, on the grounds that the
losses arose from actions of the company rather than from any defect of
regulation, and that it was still trading. Equitable policyholders continued
    to demand redress."

Hmm. Have I vented my spleen on the Equitable situation?

10 years pension contributions, all made more than 12 years ago. Now
worth less than 40k. Money I really found hard to find at the time.
And the situation has (to some extent) fucked my flexibility re
    retirement etc.

I'll still be working at 70. Twats.
