  2. As I've mentioned before, the intial problem of range is easily solved
with a battery trailer. While some might not like the idea, it will
work, especially for commuting use on roads that aren't too clogged with
fuckwits. Bear in mind that CityLink bike couriers used trailers in and
round London for years without much mishap - but they were a bit mad,
    right enough.
With battery development proceeding apace, 120 miles on a single charge,
held entirely on the bike, will be affordable before too long.

But I thought you were *married* to an attractive woman! How did that
    happen then?

Well, that was part of the humour - we've all been that tongue tied in
    that situation.

No, she's addicted to alcohol by the sounds of things.

    I have absolutely no idea.

I can tell you one thing. Whoever said "bikes get you girls" was
    lying.

  14. That's the kind of thing I was getting at - I've got a home-built bike
trailer and one of the SOGSs wiv towbar, so I'm well used to doing it
around here. A battery trailer wouldn't be any hindrance at all to me,
but might concern some in heavier traffic.

I've been of this opinion for a long time. Well, a couple of years.

I like the idea of an electric commuter bike. Something with a 35 mile
range would be useful for me, as I've been known to collapse walking up
the hill to the bus, so cycling isn't an option I have. I could pop over
to my mums for Sunday lunch and plug the bike in to give it a quick
boost so I can thrash it home.

Those new safer Lithium cells are coming on well, I expect they will be
cheaper in the future.. or some smart person will think up something new.

One thing I don't see on those electric bike conversions is some sort of
regen braking. I guess that you could use a hub motor on the front to
give 2wd and regen braking. More cost... plus a bunch of super caps and
    complex controller thingies.

  18. I'm not aiming at any market - this is for me. Such a device would
enable me to go to the shops and back several times between charges, or
even do a decent length round trip.

and you wouldn't knacker up your combustion engined bike by using it for
    short trips.

A123 cells have a 5 minute recharge time (apparently), if you've got
    enough current. :)
    Heh.. ok
