Came to go for a ride tonight, and my ol' FJ1100 have overnight
turned into an FJ550. Whipped the tank off, and using a spare plug,
confirmed that whilst cylinders 2 & 3, were sparking well, 1 had no
spark at all, and 4 had a very very weak spark. which naturally lead
me to believe the coil was shagged.
Dropping the multimeter on the coil input, both coils were getting
voltage, but the coil supplying cylinders 1&4 was at a lower
voltage. whats the reason for this ?

any help or pointers would be appreciated.

    regards

Switch the coils round, see what happens.

yeah just done that, with feeds switched, the fault is still on 1 & 4
, sparking on 2&3 soooo t'would appear that it is in fact the coil

despite a slightly lower voltage, on that feed, it still sparked up
    the working coil.

I'll see if any local breakers have any, failing that I'll order one
    from the doc

    cheers

Well, I meant try the 2&3 coil on cylinders 1&4 to see if it's the coil,
but it sounds like it is anyway.
