A friends eldest lad is just 18.
You *don't* want to argue about a war with him unless you were there.
Learning about it hasn't put him off either; he's off to the Navy in
    March.
He really doesn't want the new aircraft carriers
    cancelled......................

Have I mentioned in this thread already that we should have Nuked their
invasion convoy at the halfway point?

I've always wondered what the real story was with regard to the
Argentine exocets. Did we politely request that France dis-arm the
exocets they'd sold to the Argentine military.

Don't know if this quotation has any basis in fact, it is amusing though
as a first hit on google.

    http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/archive/index.php/t-230955.html

Mitterrand told him during one of their sessions: "What an impossible
woman, that Thatcher. With her four nuclear submarines on mission in the
southern Atlantic, she threatens to launch the atomic weapon against
Argentina – unless I supply her with the secret codes that render deaf
and blind the missiles we have sold to the Argentinians.”

Magoudi said Mitterrand told him that he had ordered the Exocet codes to
be handed over to the British at Thatcher’s insistence: "She has them
now, the codes. If our customers find out that the French wreck the
weapons they sell, it’s not going to reflect well on our exports.”

    Nice !

But I was thinking more along the lines of "We kicked their asses" type of
    septic help.

Well, it's like that - it's OK to spend millions on developing weapons
    of mass
destruction that have the potential to incinerate cities, because you
    never plan
on using them, and besides, the money goes to scientists, engineers
    and the
    likes of Bonwick :)

On the other hand, if you spend millions on black ops wetwork teams
    and go
around left and right whacking scientists and politicians the world
    suddenly
becomes a much more dangerous place for politicos. You wouldn't get
approval from legislators from such a scheme. A pity, really.
Yeah, I've seen this interview, too:

    Sir Humphrey: It’s a deterrent.
    Hacker: It’s a bluff. I probably wouldn’t use it.
Sir Humphrey: Yes, but they don’t know that you probably
    wouldn’t.
    Hacker: They probably do.
Sir Humphrey: Yes, they probably know that you probably
wouldn’t. But they can’t certainly know.
Hacker: They probably certainly know that I probably wouldn’t.
Sir Humphrey: Yes, but even though they probably certainly
know that you probably wouldn’t, they don’t certainly know that,
although you probably wouldn’t, there is no probability that you
    certainly would!

    :)

That's a piss poor example of "learning about the war", coz it's actually
nothing of the sort. It's just some old goomers whinging coz you had long
hair stood around on street corners. I'm inclined to believe that most kids
of the age you are were then were subjected to the same tirades from those
    who felt hard done by.
Well now we know where you get your information, but *for* your information,
    I don't use wiki.
And kids of an impressionable early age read the News of the World? Mmmm, it
must be nice living in such an enlightened area.

As for war movies and war comics, that's all they were. Movies and comics
and nothing to do with the real world at all. At least these days we get
some documentary style programs that show the fact that at least 6 million
were murdered in the gas chambers, or shot, or clubbed to death. That kids
were experimented on and women too just to see what could be done about
sterilising them to make "Solving the the Jewish Problem" more efficient. I
can't remember seeing anything like that in the movies or the comics when I
was a kid. In fact, I'd like to know if you can give me the name of a single
film or comic which was around when you were "learning all about the war"
that mentioned gassing millions and trying to eliminate the Jewish race.
    Just one would be fine.

Good for propaganda and not much else.

Maybe we will need to do it all over again
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8518982.stm

"It added that the UK and Argentina were "important partners" with a "close
and productive relationship" would make me nervous ;o)
