How about a complete, weldmesh based tyre outer casing?

    I'm being silly now, aren't I

R100RS with little skis on the crashbars and decent trail bike tyres.

The entire concept is likely to get someone killed!

Several bikes equipped with ski like devices went past me when I was
struggling up the hill away from the site and I've considered making
    some for the K100.

The main snags with skis would be supporting any shock load without
damaging the bike, stopping the rear wheel leaving the floor when
going round a corner, stopping the skis from digging in and moving the
front wheel off line, finding a quick and solid way of mounting said
    skis etc etc.

I think that the best answer to the problem of how to avoid dropping
the bike on snow is to not ride it on snow. Once that option has been
thrown out as being soft than the next best option is a sidecar.

I'm seriously toying with the idea of spending a whole year being nice
to Platy and Burnt then asking them to carry half my junk so I can fit
a set of wets to my KTM and use that. I'm convinced that wets would be
better in lying snow than proper off road tyres but once it gets to
ice neither would be worth a wank.

    That's another incorrect assumption.

If I buy a chair it'll be fitted to my K100 and the whole lot will
cost me significantly less than £6k.

I had a quick scan of their site and noticed that they hire outfits
and I'm now wondering if they'd be stupid enough to let a ukrm poster
    hire one for a week?

    They do?

Well... if they hire one of the 750s which will allegedly cruise at 70
that might be a go-er. However..

    "Where are you taking it?"

"Er... Germany.. Umm close to Munich. ish..."

    "Elefantentreffen???"

    "possibly"

    . . . . .
You guys might want to pick up some ideas from
<http://www.krystallrally.no/>. Plenty of ideas in the pictures taken
    at the 05-07 meetings.

The primus is one that's already caught my eye.

The only trouble with the primus rally is getting info about when it's
on and where it's happening because the organisers don't bother with
stuff like a website as far as I can find out.

Maybe we should take a proper axe this time.

I've just had this horrible vision of Sweller being told to squeal
    like a pig.
For self defence? I think you're right.
