There seemed to be some interest this weekend (no, I didn't go picking on drunks) in next years Elefantentreffen so can anyone who seriously wants to go put their hand up and I'll either get Adie to clear the old mailing list and start it again or just start a new one and then we'll subscribe all interested parties and that'll probably be the end of it on here. I'll repeat the normal story that this isn't an 'organised' trip, the regular attendees will let anyone who's not been before know what the score is and we'll keep everyone informed as to dates, ferries and hotels but you book it for yourself and if you cock it up you don't go. It's a self-help trip and if things go wrong you'll need to have some means of recovery sorted out because once it's obvious any problem isn't a 30 minute fix you're on your own. We'll be leaving the UK on a Tuesday evening, stopping at a hotel in Germany on the Wednesday then three nights camping at the rally. Sunday night is back to the hotel then Monday night on a ferry home. Most of us go from Harwich to the Hoek because it's a night on the beer and it's a shorter ride once you're on the mainland but others will probably cross over to Calais then nail it up from there. It'll be cold and you'll get hardly any sleep because the drinking never stops for some but it's a laugh and it's certainly the biggest winter rally in Europe. Food and drink are reasonably priced at the site and you can buy firewood from by the main gate so chainsaws or axes are only for show. It'll almost certainly snow so don't think you can go on a litre class sports bike and there's over 1,000 miles of motorway riding so 2-stroke trailies aren't going to last the trip. I suspect that XT Yamahas will be the bike of choice for most but there may be an Armstrong up for sale soon if that floats your boat. Don't all wave at once.....
