Employment contracts

  1. This was my experience in the US, there was no way my former employer
    was going to try and enforce something like that for any 'normal'
    person.

    Do the union agree with that willingly or is it something they just
    have to accept?

    I'd have thought that if you've worked for the railway all your life
    and decide to move to another operator now they've all split up
    they're effectively banning you from working for that period of time.

    I've got plenty of annoying little clauses in this new contract but
    the only one I'm dead set on removing is one where they state they can
    send me overseas for up to three months without me having cause to
    complain. FRO.

    We agreed to it as part of pay deal - it was worth a fair whack of cash -
    and if you do need to go the courts aren't too fussed as long as you give
    four weeks.

    The companies like it as they think it has a deterrent effect and stops
    people transferring out. It doesn't.
