Well that we buy any car website said £1,100, but it means getting it there
and then having them try to haggle me down.

I think the quote for a 19 year old in a group 18 car would be
somewhere between "**** off" and hysterical laughter.

    Hint: I wasn't serious.

At least £1,500, I'd guess. If he can find somewhere willing to take him.

Getting it there involves £25 for one of those decent tow-bars from
    Machine Mart, doesn't it?

I didn't realise they'd try to haggle you down once it was there, mind.

I don't know if it's even possible to get ordinary (as opposed to
escrow) insurance for a group 18 car for a 19 year old on a
provisional licence in London. Certainly when I looked into the
aforementioned 1l Corsa class of car for him, the quotes were coming
in as you say, north of £1.5K, so I gave up.
if I had a .sig I'd put a winking smiley in it to remind you all not
to take anything I say seriously.
    well, duh.

By the way, I finally got around to going to the Paternoster Chop
House for Sunday Lunch yesterday. Despite being somewhat cheaper than
through the week, the quality of the food is still what I expected,
and the staff as helpful and friendly as ever - totally recommended.
We spent more on wine than food, of course, but that's where they make
    their money.

    PM sent.

The front brakes on the CBR are starting to clag up already so I'm going
back to four wheels for the winter.

Low mpg and high insurance bands hold no fear for me ;-)

Air con in the UK, unnecessary.

Fiat reliability... I'm looking at a 25cm ejector cigarette holder to
match the car, just light a cigarette, pop on the Ray Bans and nobody
will be any the wiser that you're waiting for a tow.

Ah! *Now* I realise why the Coupe Club do branded vacuum flasks and
rucksacks; you can pretend you're having a quick roadside picnic.

Lad that bought my Clio R27 F1 last week was 19. Paying £1,600 FC with a
    £1,500 excess apparently. That's group 15, 197bhp, a year old and worth
about £12k. I thought he was mad, but he paid cash so I was in no position
    to tell him that ;-)

Well, that and obviously I couldn't get up and show him round or take him
for a drive, so my mum did the deal. Well proud of her I was.

Not so bad, got pretty used to the legs not working thing now, it's been a
few months now. Also we part ex'd mum's hateful little Seat Arosa 1.0 last
week for a Fiat Doblo[1] that has a wheelchair conversion in the back, with
a ramp and space for me, so I just roll in, and sit next to the dog as it
leaves one seat in the back for a passenger heh. So we had the maiden
voyage the other day, but I was uncomfy in the chair before I got in the
car, and also felt pretty unwell too, but we pressed on and went for a short
drive just to get over that first time hurdle. Granted we only went round
the block, but it was a start! Now we know we need cushions in the chair,
and I need to not be feeling grotty - which we have pills for :)

Aside from that, pretty static, haven't upped the painkillers since just
after the legs went now, which is pretty good cos the doc said we'd be
upping them every week or two weeks at the most. Even the pressure sores
are getting better - but still a bloody annoyance as if the fat, useless
ball of butter that is my ex-GP (she must be 30 stone, and once, pronounced
someone dead that wasn't!) had given us, even a vague warning that we had to
look out for them, they would have been avoided. As it was, we found out by
finding a big purple bruise on my back... Of course, by that stage it was
too late and it turned into a lovely big pressure sore, then big piece of
black, dead flesh, which fell off, and now it's a nice pink area which is
healing amazingly quickly. I also have a little one on each hip, which
aren't near as bad, but like we do with the big one we're spending our time
    forever changing bloody dressings.

We're just kinda plodding along now, which is part the reason why we got the
ugliest car ever made, sorry, the Doblo as we got the feeling we were just
filling time in the days, as it's just the same old routine so we're
thinking if we can go out and go places from time to time it'd be nice!

[1] Who on earth signed off the design of the thing? Google if, like me,
you've never seen one before. Still, it was cheap, and the conversion costs
£6k! We only paid £2k plus the Arosa for the whole thing, on an 02 plate,
1.9 JTD with about 30k miles iirc. So it's ugly, slow, noisy and some
kind've snot green. Still, it does the job heh :)

I personally think the Doblo gives it a good run for it's "Holy shit I can't
look at it" money. What is it with Fiat? I mean why? The designers
obviously take most of the blame, but someone higher up must have looked at
the design and gone "Yea, that's awesome, that right there is what's gonna
make us plenty of sales! I mean, think of the showroom draw alone".

Still, at least we can leave it absolutely anywhere, safe in the knowledge
    it won't get nicked.

The phase two is a lot easier on the eye from the front, but aye... you do
have to wonder what they were thinking.
