Many moons ago Bee bought me a pair of Daytona Roadstar GTX touring boots for xmas, and over the last 8 or 9 years they've seen some excessive overuse and abuse. Three days ago they finally bit the dust when I realised I'd lost a 2 inch square section of rubber from the sole. Graham at GLF sends Daytonas back to the factory for rebuilds on a regular basis - I believe SD has had his rebuilt there - so I took them in to him for an assessment. Graham had a look over and sugggested I have the soles replaced and while they were at it I may as well have the Goretex liners replaced as well, because they're 9 years old and they'd have to replace the soles again to replace the liners if they started leaking next winter - best to get both done just the once. Bearing in mind that when Bee bought me these boots she got them on special offer at 99 quid from M+P, the rebuild is going to cost me 165. I'm actually very happy to pay it because an identical new pair would set me back 340 notes and there's sod all wrong with the rest of these ones. The uppers are in excellent condition and only show mild scuffing, the toe pads are fine and the zips work like they were fitted last week. Not bad for a pair of boots that have been neglected, abused and generally treated like a throwaway pair of trainers for 9 years. Best pressie I ever got, thanks Bee :-) Unfortunately I may not have them back in time for my trip to Malta, but I have a pair of CE approved Oxtar Goretex race boots that I can wear instead - I've had them 3 years and they still haven't broken in properly, but that's because I usually only wear them on track.
