The remaining people will only want to get bigger cars, eat more fast
food and reproduce more, and they'll be harder to kill off.

I've found that your attitude varies with age. For example, older people
seem to be less aware of the energy they're using up. Take my retired ex
land lord and land lady for example. They thought nothing of leaving
windows wide open and the heating full on in mid winter, also for
driving 200 yards down the road every day, leaving the electric water
heater on for days at a time, leaving garage lights on 24/7.
Future generations will never come will they? The only generation that
can do something about it is this one.

The trouble is, that the alternatives take more energy to produce. If
we've got no oil, how do we get the energy to produce this energy? Long
gone are the days of taking 1 barrel of oil to produce 100 barrels.
Go back to big sulfhur producing energy production? It also takes energy
to clean up energy production, so we end up using the fuel up quicker.
How are they going to power these plants and have enough energy left
over for industry and domestic use? Nuclear? Solar? Wind? Growing energy
crops that themselves take energy to produce, and land? Where are the
ever expanding populations going to live too?

It's not running out of oil or gas that's going to kill us, it's our
thirst for energy and ever growing wealth, or bling... whatever you like
    to call it.

They are all knee jerk reactions, unless to act before the event.

Although I dare say at the time it was argued that "the evidence of your
own fucking eyes should tell you enough" and other learned scientific
data was used to support the case for reason.

Ooo.. I lost my one, after I melted the leads off. Need to find it and
solder a couple more on, then dig out the other stuff I found.

  10. It's true to say that, in general, what mankind can do is greatly
outclassed in scale and fury by nature, but I'm pretty convinced we're
on a slippery slope if we carry on as we are. Even if the world would be
naturally heading into the next Ice Age or entering a period of global
warming without our activities, I'm certain we have and are contributing
to and speeding up the process.

Iow; get a barrel of chipoil up ye.

Some would say that's the natural progression of things for the human
    race, so why fight it?

  14. I honestly don't think I've heard such selfish bollocks for a while; at
least, not since Bush was elected.

I doubt it on both counts. If the former he'd have said "God will
    protect us" surely?

I don't see what's wrong with being selfish. Life is short, enjoy it
whilst you can. Why should we give up things we enjoy just to have some
marginal effect in several hundred years time?

It's natural to want to kill ourselves off? Maybe people like Bush and
you will, and it's us that want to survive that will claim the future.

Why worry about it - you'll be long gone by the time any effects of our
carbon fuel use have any real effect.
