Do you happen to know how many (kilo)calories there are in a pint of
beer? I guess there's different amounts in different beers but while my
body's still rather trim for someone of my vintage, I can't help
noticing that I'm getting the "HGV spread"; that's is, my gut's
expanding like that 'filler foam' stuff and it's spreading its way round
    my back.

****, I've even got man boobs!

  3. I don't know why they have to fpiss around with things and go about
    renaming perfectly good units.

Leave well alone if it works.

Ethyl alcohol (aka ethanol) is about 7 calories per gram, so a pint of
5% wifebeater will provide about 200 calories from the ethanol and a few
more from any unfermented sugars. Bargain on about 250 calories per
pint, and it all adds up scarily quickly.

A good guide is 250 calories per pint of average strength (4% ish)
    beer.

    <nods gloomily>

When I summon the willpower to stop drinking for a month, I invariably lose
about a stone. Course, that's probably also tied in to eating less crap due
to not being pissed and getting the munchies.

Yes, I wondered about that when I was using fitday. I came to the
conclusion it's bollox. No matter how closely I monitored my food
intake, the weight loss didn't match what the energy expenditure said it
should be (even allowing for some errors). At the end of the day I
simply used it as a diary and a bit of a filip when things were flagging.

ITYF that's more like 600 [1]per hour (although we are about to enter
one of the great estimates of our time). 600 on top of your normal
    metabolic rate that is.
    [1] www.fitday.com activity:jogging:6.7mph for 30mins: 300ish calories.
Can't be arsed to put the exact numbers in, but I typically run 3
    miles 4 times a week.

I've been using http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/ to log what I
eat and exercise I do^^^^nt. seems to do what is says.

you get certain calories depending on your level of activity, starting
weight and extra for any exercise you do.

I lost a stone doing it earlier in the year but descending eating more
junk food when I didn't take care.

what really pisses me off is that what Andy considers to be a snack
uses more than my calorie intake for a day. and he gets to remain a
    skinny ****.

true but we're talking about A snack here, not a full days intake.

    it consisted of

    pringles
    dip
    stilton
    pork pie
    brown sauce
    a pint

Yep. Pringles and dip is a good snack.
Can't see where that comes in, to be honest.
Does he put brown sauce on a pork pie?
That's sacrilige that is. Especially if
    it's a proper Melton Mowbray.
    Only the one?

using dietpower, seems remarkably accurate so far and still loosing
weight. If (When!) I get to my ideal healthy weight I am wandering if
my bike will go faster and use less fuel !

Actually, I've been drinking far more than usual, lately: Pretty much
every day after work I'll have at least two pints of shit German lager
and much more proper ale at the weekends.

Of course, all the ice creams from work I've been eating haven't
    helped..

So, I can lose a stone just by stopping drinking? Cool.

How do you summon the willpower?
