Whats the good oil these days... This is for XTZ750 Yamaha..

Most shops seem to stock Motul and Shell... But are they the good oil,
or what they make most $ on?

I may have been drunk, but Im sure the owner said he used Shell Tellus
in it, but thats hydraulic oil ?

Ditto in the old bike, the new one takes 10W60 full synthetic which is
a Castrol got from the same place and is eye wateringly expensive...

Penrite have a model-checker thingie website if you're unsure what to use:
    http://www.datateck.com.au/Lube/PenriteAus/default.asp
(Sin15 is their recommendation for the Norge and just 20w-50 or Sin15
    for the XTZ750)

Dunno, I left the first few services to the dealer. Was on full syn
    when I started doing changes.

    No not Tellus.

Delo was OK on the old 650 single but I would be chary about using
high detergent oil in an old high performance engine. The old caution
about the removal of gap filling carbon deposits through the use of
diesel specific engine oil is a bit more than an old wives tale.

Any oil that conforms to the specified viscosity standards is OK
regardless of price. Manufacturers specifications consider dry/wet
sumps, dry/wet clutches, bearing clearances, rev ranges,
contamination, seal compositions etc. Whether or not a particular
suitable brand or type is more economical than another depends on
change frequency versus price and whether manufacturers
recommendations can be tampered with. Of course, you do that at your
own risk so research is essential.
Economy due to extended engine life due to use of a particular oil is
    a bit hard to prove.
I stick with the cheapest brand that meets all of the recommended
criteria, and change at periods recommended by the manufacturer

Are Shell still doing the Sport 4? I used to use it in the GT750 (Kwak) and
the Goldwing without any problems but that was a few years back.

I'm using Castrol RX and will probably change to Rimula-X
Worth doing a bit of reading on the use of alternate oils.
    Much cheaper and excellent oils.
Would like to use Rotella-T synthetic 5w 40w, but not available in
    Australia
