Interesting how they carefully put the driver's head where the bike
would be coming from so you don't see it.

And how hard it is to see the bike anyway!

Not to mention the speed seems to be different in the 3 versions.

What gets me is how hard it is to see the bike. I wonder if it would
be easier without the headlight? That light blends in very well... I
suspect an all black fairing would work a lot better.

I will pass it on to my Federal Member and the Qld State opposition
    Transport spokesman.

    Also have a look here:

    http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/

Speed seems to play not so big a part and the UK road safety campaign, and
surprise surprise their road toll is lower than ours (despite having worse
road conditions a lot of the time).

  9. Actually for me it was an action replay to a certain extent. Travelling
parallel to the railway line, I pulled up to the stop sign at the level
crossing on Guildford Rd in Guildford (it was a long time ago), looked left,
looked right, accelerated across the intersection and got knocked off my
TX500 by the Mini van I didn't see coming from my right. Burnt leg from the
exhaust as the result. New Years day 1977.

I don't see why non-riders would have a problem with it, the ad was quite
neutral in its treatment, just pushing the message to look.

I showed the wife and she walked off the instant the bike hit. She doesn't
like me riding and doesn't want to think about me in a wheelchair (or
    worse).

How about moving really fast? A slow moving light could be mistaken for a
staionary light such as a street light or reflection. A highly mobile light
would be a lot more obvious, especially one that is weaving from side to
    side.
So the lesson is, riding fast, weaving through traffic, on a black bike is a
    good thing :))

I have non-riding (mainly work) colleagues sending me unsolicited and
unwanted shite all the time about motorcycle prangs *because* they know
I'm a motorcyclist. Case in point was a bloke yesterday who sent me a
pic out of South Africa of a motorcyclist torn to pieces in some
freak-of-nature accident. I don't need, or want, that.
Sometimes I get the feeling that non-motorcyclists actually
think/believe you're soon going to die a grisly death on the roads. I'm
starting to believe that they don't give a toss, full stop, or think
that they could one day be responsible for a serious injury/fatality to
    a motorcyclist.
But still, this ad is probably as vividly real a possibility for me as a
car driver, and therefore scares the bejeezus out of me.

That about hits the nail on the head. Because of the lack of education,
normal Joe just assumes riders are evil hairy chested bogans who will all
kill themselves one day and it'll be thir own fault.

Ha! Everyone's queuing up to tell Rhonda stories about their
friend who, after a 96 hour labour, delivered a 15 pound baby
through their left nostril but broke their pelvis anyway, and
they're fine now except for the incontinence and the shell
shock and they still can't eat cheese. The horror, the horror.

From the perspective of both a driver and rider - terrifying. I'll
never forget it, that's for sure. I've just crunched it down (resized
and resampled) to make a <1MB version. That will easily squeeze into
the inboxes of family and friends who normally fill mine with useless
Powerpoint files full of cute kittens and Photographs of the Year
    20xx.

Now... having said that.... there's quite a few technical elements to
the clip that make it fun to pull apart.

    1. The crash vs safe-passing scenes are so different - most critically
the position of the rider ie 3ft off the kerb vs almost the dead
    centre of the road.

    2. You can't tell me the crash vs safe-pass were at the same speed. No
    way!

    3. Iif you watch frame-by-frame from 0'10.08" to 0'10.12" you can see
that the kerb-hugging rider (simulated or otherwise) is *turning* to
position himself almost behind the driver. WTF?! Suicide mission?

    4. Mr Splatt is shown lying next to the car with his torso twisted up
and slightly to his left. The helmet is pointed almost backwards to
his right. Badly-fitting (allowing it to rotate) or has he somehow
managed to snap his head off?

    Any more?
