Er-5 battery problem

A mate of mine bought his son an ER-5, first big bike for him. It's been
running great, but they decided to power wash it last week with the engine
running to dry it out quicker and the next day the battery died. He bought a
new battery, put it in, and it started ok. After being left overnight, the
new battery is dead. Sounds like an open circuit or short somewhere, maybe
because of the wash it had.
Anyone got ideas where to look to cure it? Could it be a regulator problem?
I've got a multi meter we could use to check for voltage etc. Cheers.

You seem to be getting very bossy towards Nick. Have you got some sort of
    master/sub fantasy thing going?

Thank you for your recent enquiry relating to battery charge issues
with your friends' Kawasaki ER-500 motorcycle.

I have looked into your query and can confirm that there is a fault
with ER-5's being used by young Italian men while resident in the UK.
Due to moisture retention causing an earthing of a connection from the
reg/rec unit the battery doesn't receive a nominal charge. I have
previously contacted Kawasaki relating to a similar problem in the
past and they say that if the bike is outside of the warantee period
you should contact your nearest authorized re-seller who will provide
you with my contact details so that I can give the rider a good seeing
    to.

Should you have any further queries please let me know and I'll be
only be too pleased to assist you.

    Kindest regards,

  9. Stuart Gray brought next idea :
Check the voltage across the battery with the engine running, it should
be around 13.8 to 14.4v. Fully charged, engine not running 12.5 to
    around 13v.
