Could do with a backup commuter bike...

I'm going to take The Car to work, after I've finished I'll go to
Homebase or Halfrauds or something and get a nice new spanner that
isn't open ended. If that doesn't work then I'm going to take use
lots of heat and see if that works.

If not, well, I've got an angle grinder.

Can you get the chain and wheel on straight with a passing resemblance to
adjusted? Get on bike and come to Brighton and I'll fix it this Saturday.

Then you can help paint the back of my house - it's a very small terrace
and is nearly all done, you'll be on ladder holding duties.

If I can't get the nut off by this evening then I'll try and bodge it
back together in some way. I'll keep you posted.
    That's good, as I can't do heights.

Disk rears, especially Suzukis, provide so much more entertainment.

Armed with blow torch and shiney new 14mm endless spanner from
Halfrauds I attacked the nut and the fucker will not move. After
three grunts it rounded off the end nicely.

    <sob>

Now I've got to try and put the The Bar back to where it was but it's
not going and I'm lacking light now.

The only way I can see of getting that bar put back where it belongs
is to remove the rear wheel.

If I had the money I'd just cart it off to the garage and ask them to
**** with it until it worked again, but as funding isn't my strong
point at the moment the bike will have to stay 'off the road' for a
    while.

Disk brakes can't be as annoying as drums?

  14. Only kidding. Not for sale, really. It's my recently-acquired winter

    Eh?

Actually, I do seem to have more trouble with brakes[1] than anything
else but really, I have NFI what you're burbling on about :)

    I'm not sure. I don't really want another ER-5... I just need a mode
    of transport.

    Hmm. Interesting situation.

Haynes doesn't even list that nut. It's shown in the picture, but
doesn't say anything needs to be done to it. Mr. Haynes obviously
never tried to adjust a chain on an ER-5, only wrote out what he
    thought should be done.

GPZ has a disc rear, ER-5 doesn't. Bugger him.
