Sad mate of mine is looking for a SOBMW K1!
Why? I really have no idea, but that's what he wants.
    He's seen this;
    http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Classifieds/listing/306/BMW_K1.html

IYHO do you recon the price to be about right? It's very difficult to make a
    guess on something this old/unusual.

Your opinion would be most welcomed.
    TIA.

Well, TOG's currently making Colombia a slightly safer place by not
riding a bike there so I hope that you won't mind if I comment on this.

*If* the mileage is genuine, is does have an up-to-date service history,
*everything* is working (ABS etc) and it's as clean as it looks in the
picture then yes, it is probably worth around that kind of money. It
also depends if the bike comes with accessories like the panniers etc.

As it's in Tunbridge Wells[1] and my tame BMW specialist isn't too far
away (Pembury) I would suggest that the best course of action if your
mate seriously considers to buy this bike, it may be worth calling said
specialist to see if he's willing to check over the bike.

If he doesn't find anything wrong with it then buy it before the seller
changes his mind, 'cos that would be almost unheard of...

[1]I'm not going to phone the guy, I'm too close and going over there
"just to have a look" may prove disastrous to my wallet.

  4. Hmf. early one with the silly built-in sandwich box panniers. Looks
good, and the price isn't out of court for a dealer, but the lack of a
mileage figure and the absence of any real details would put me off.

Hog or Timo will give you a better assessment.

  5. And he has an internet connection, and is severely jetlagged, and has an
aching right arm from a yellow fever jab administered by a one-eyed
doctor in a basement in Sao Paulo airport, which is why he's now
browsing ukrm at 0550am in Bogota prior to being picked up at 0800 to go
    and do a day's work.

Got tomorrow free, though, and my driver/bodyguard (yes!) has suggested
he take me to the Salt Cathedral.

  7. OK, missed that. In which case, from a dealer, that's not a bad price at
    all.

Doug Hacking's oop here in Bolton had one in and they maybe still have coz
no-one showed any interest in it. It was in REALLY good looking condition
although the "pinky" red was a bit too offensive.
