I've just sold the TL on ebay.

The new buyer seems pretty keen, and was hoping to colect it tonight.
So I hurriedly dug out all the paperwork only to find that I've only
got half the registration document, the bit with the transfer slips.

Should I have the whole document, or is this normal?

I do have a very dim memory of a Post Office clerk taking half of *a*
registration document and the Guzzi also seems to only have half a
    document, too.

Provided you have registered it then you should have a whole document. The
bit you give the buyer will enable him to tax the vehicle while he waits for
the new V5 to turn up. That may be the "half" a document you recall.

It is registered to me: I have a couple of old tax reminders but the
bit I need to sign to transfer the vehicle privately is missing. All
I've got are sections 9 (notifiaction of sale to motor trade), section
10 (new keeper supplement) and 11 (notification of permanent export)

I'm fairly sure that the other bit was kept when I taxed the bike, or
    maybe changed address.

Fucking FUCKING DVLA and their fucking weird stupid documentation
    system.

I suppose I should have checked, but I've had the bike so long I
    didn't even think to check.

    Pip Luscher () gurgled
happily, sounding much like they were saying :
Give 'em a shout - I rang DVLA today to chase a V5 sent about 6/7 wks ago
for a change of one detail. Got put through to the person dealing with it,
who had all the details to hand, and offered to flag it as "urgent".

    Impressed? I think so.
    Gobsmacked? Definitely.

Same here. When the KLE log book didn't turn up after a couple of months
(I'd filled in an incomplete address in my over-excited bike purchasing
haze), a quick call to the DVLA got me a replacement within a week.

You don't give that bit to the new owner anyway, so you should be OK.

I'd just give him the bit he's supposed to have, note his details down,
apply for a new V5 and then send it off with his details on.

It'll obviously take a bit longer, but hopefully should work out OK.

only problem is that the new owner has to sign too

Yebbut you're suposed to send that bit off to the DVLA.

Well, I've left it with him.

If he wants to wait while I get a new document then that'll be fine,
but I'd rather transfer it proper, like. Apart from anything else, any
speeding fines etc. will come to me, though I suppose that I can
probably prove that it wasn't me riding the bike.
