Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik.

Hands up who else was born before the start of the Space Age.

    Hey ho.
Today I shall finish cleaning my workshop (prompted by the
imminent arrival of a young Spanish design graduate (f)
working with me for a month)
and the rest of the day will be spent rennovating my rear brake.

Or should that be the rest of the month?

I can't say I remember it totally clearly given that I was about my
lad's age at the time. Cue the appropriate Tornadoes track though and
memories of five years later will come flooding back.

I was old enough to remember Sputnik being launched and all the following
crap like launching Lieka the dog into space, never to return. I couldn't
(and still can't) see the point in doing that.

They had monitors on board that showed that she survived take-off and
orbit. Shame thay hadn't worked out the landing bit, but hey, it was
    only a dog.

Heh, when I was 40 last year I asked Platy for some advice on how cope
    with mid-life crisises.

The alcohol has fuzzed the memory of what he said but I'm sure it was good.

ISTR that the alcohol was a significant part of the recommended approach.
