After my grumbling about having to get up at ungodly hours for signing in, I thought I'd try an evening track day. It went rather well. I passed through several heavy showers on the way up and another heavy shower soaked the circuit just before sign-in, so I was soundly cursing the weather and promising myself "never again". However, as a result of my usual caution, I was in the Novices' group and by the time we went out, the track was almost completely dry. There was even a bit of sun for a bit, though it was actually a hindrance because it was low and directly ahead on the start straight, so bikes in front were mere silhouettes. I was terribly nervous before we went out the first time, not totally surprising given the amount of bad luck I've had (some of it of my own making, admittedly) but once I'd settled down then I really began to enjoy it. I even got my knee down a few times, even if the first time at the Melbourne loop I barely shaved more than a couple of molecules off my slider. Happily for my ego, I was overtaking rather more than I was overtaken, but then I damn' well should have been, given the number of times I've been on a circuit. All in all, a great confidence boost. In fact, three sessions were not *quite* enough.
