Maybe it is just me, but I get the impression they don't want my money
    (this time).

And if they think I will ring the 1-800 number .....

(and yes I do have an address or two I can use now, but I started to get a
    bit pedantic)

    Dear Bruce Porter,

If you do not have the address where you would be staying in the US then
please list the one which the new business department suggests you to,
till the time you have your address in USA.

Wow, this is hard work isn't it ?

    1) Yes I am UK based
    2) I will be in the USA from Sept for 2 months.
    3) On mine and my wife's motorbikes.
    4) We want RV Roadhelp in the *USA*
    5) Your on-line system does not allow me to purchase from a non-US
    address
    6) I have had All State RV Roadhelp in the past in 2007, hence I have a
    membership number.
    7) Someone at All State (a Shane Abbot) helped with this.

I *do not* want the service in the UK, I want it in the US.

I want to give you some money, you do not seem to want to take it.

Please can you pass this onto someone who is able to help.

Laughable init, but not untypical these days. People who work in
customer service don't seem to understand basic English.

A much shorter example I had this week; I've been waiting weeks for new
brake discs for the Raptor from M&P. EBC keep giving them 'estimated'
delivery dates, but they never turn up.

So a couple of days ago I emailed BCT Motorcycles who are showing 10 of
some Spanish brand discs in stock on Ebay. I asked them to confirm
they've definitely got both a right & left disc in stock as I didn't
want to cancel the M&P order & end up jumping out of the frying pan
    into the fire.

Their reply: "We've got one in stock for immediate despatch". Riiiight.
Really fucking useful answer that. No mention of which side it's for,
or if they're expecting any more in, or why they say they've got 10 on
    the Ebay listing.

Interestingly I've just checked the listing again & it now shows just
one in stock, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt & assume it
    was a genuine mistake.

Ok, I'd not thought of that.

But TBH, I don't think I want to give them any money, I'll probably go
with AMA instead, as at least they seem to understand that people want to
bring their bike from abroad and use it for a couple of months, with no
    need for a US address.

It's happened again!!! Within a couple of hours of having a bitch on
here, M&P call to say they've now got the discs in stock & they'll be
    with me early next week.

I fixed that for you. How some poor septic is meant to figure out what
he was asking for, is beyond me.

"One question I cannot resolve is if a single RV Roadhelp will cover
the fact my wife and I will be on 2 motorbikes, or do we need 2
memberships" seems pretty clear to me.

Part of their reply otoh - "There is no additional fee to add a spouse
or designated other person to the membership. You can not add any other
person to the membership". WTF? Does that mean you can add one person
for free but no others, or that you're not allowed to add anyone else &
    that's why there's no fee?

Seems fairly clear - you can add your missus (or a "designated other",
just to cover all bases in the unmarried/gay direction) - but not your
    mate/sister/random-broken-down-bloke-as-a-favour.

Doesn't answer the "Will me and the missus get both bikes rescued by one
policy or do we need two?" question, though.

But it doesn't say 'designated other', it says 'designated other
person'. If it does mean what you say, I'm sure it'd be something like
    'spouse or life partner'.
All of whom could be designated other people.

That was probably the single clear question and that's questionable.

"I want to renew my membership, last used in 2007 (UK based and on
    the way back again). "

So he's UK-based and heading back to the UK?

"As usual it seems a problem doing this via the website being non-US
    based. "

What difference does it make where the website is based?

"Last time (in 2007) Shane Abbot helped sort the issues. "

    What issues?

"One question I cannot resolve is if a single RV Roadhelp will cover
    the
fact my wife and I will be on 2 motorbikes , or do we need 2
    memberships. "

What? Two motorbikes in their RV?

I'm not aware of many sheep or chickens or giraffes with a bike licence.

If the first email had been along the lines of...

    "Dear Sir or Madam,

I will be traveling in the US for a few months from September and wish
to take out your coverage RVRoadPlan for 2 motorcycles and 2 riders.
I am resident in the UK with a UK address, and unfortunately your
website will only accept a US address for membership.

If possible, I would like to renew a previous membership I had, no
xxxxxxxxxxx, and apply the KOA discount.

    Please can you assist?"

Might have got a better response, as it actually details the problem,
rather than assuming the customer service droid is a mind reader.

I assume Allstate is like AAA, where standard coverage doesn't include
bikes. If you want motorcycle coverage, you have to get their RV
    package.

It sounds like the business department will give you an address to
    use.

Isn't it fun dealing with bureaucrats?

I've been going through this with my BMW in Germany. The DMV insists
it be covered with California insurance. My insurance company doesn't
want to write a policy if the bike isn't in the state. Catch 22.

    Higgins@work wibbled forthrightly:
Could be. Some RV's tow cars behind them, y'know. So I can see why the
    poster is querying bike cover.
