    Have the sheet opne (obviously)

    Choose
    'Edit'
    'Replace'
and then type 'week1', and 'week5' in the spaces.
    Press 'replace all'

That will change them all. HOWEVER, if you have 'week1' enterd
somehwere where you do not want to change it (like column headings) then
you can do either of two things:

highlight all the cells which contain the phrase 'week1' and use edit as
above. It will only change entries in the highlighted block.

The other way is to use the 'Find Next' option, but that's tedious.

Now someone will come along and say all that much more clearly.

For future reference - you can usually find the answer to any excel-related
questions within a few Googles of the following newsgroups :
    microsoft.public.excel.misc
    microsoft.public.excel.programming

    (There are others too ... http://tinyurl.com/3g5dt )

Heh - didn't really bother me tbh - just thought Joe might not know about
    these useful newsgroups.
*G* I've yet to see a post on microsoft.public.excel.misc asking for advice
on starting a flooded engine, tyre choice, kneedown tips etc.

I meant Excel-weiners in general rather than posters here. I'm fucking
sick to the back teeth of having to reverse-engineer and re-do
properly Excel "applications" "developed" by idiots in the business,
who really ought to be sticking to trying to do the job they were
    originally employed for...

Can anyone tell me how to change every occurence of one reference within
    a formula?
EG the formula in a spreadsheet is =sum(week1:week4,$c3) and I want to
change the week 1 into week5 and the week4 into week9.
I could do it manually but noone at work knows how to change in one
spreadsheet using the find and replace feature.
    Thanks

I didn't, thanks, I'll try those. I did post here first because the
amount of posts to wade through just on here, is massive.

That did not work for me, but thanks anyway, after trying that out I
managed it. The trick is to bunch the two week references together.
