Took the YZ out for a burn today at Washbrook Farm MX.

I arrived a bit later that intended, about five minutes into the first
250+ session. After a hurried sign-in and quick unload I did a quick
bike check: coolant OK; front brake OK; rear... woah, what's this?
back brake sticking. WD40 didn't help, then, with minutes ticking
away, found a stone wedged behind the brake lever. Thirty seconds
wiggling and poking with a screwdriver and it was free.

I made it in time to do one lap before the session ended.

Conditions were near perfect: damp enough to give the dirt some bind
but not enough to turn it into the rutted slurry it was a couple of
    weeks ago.

I will *never* be even remotely fast on a 'crosser, but it's fun
trying. Today I actually overtook at least four different bikes,
yee-haw! Admittedly one of them was an old twin shock Montesa, but
still, it's not what you've got...

I was going to take a few weeks off doing physical stuff because I've
had a dodgy elbow since skiing last winter, which I've now identified
as Tennis Elbow. Today was so much fun though, that I'm tempted to
    risk a couple more outings.

Yesterday was fabulous. West Ham beat Arsenal 1-0 and I got so drunk
after the match that I have no recollection of speaking to Blaney on
    the phone

I seem to recall a bit of the commentary from 'On Any Sunday' claiming
that MX is the second most physically demanding sport - after [quiz?]

Oh, yes. *Intensely* physical. Last Saturday was probably the first
time that I've managed to complete all the 20-minute sessions without
having to stop for a breather.

I'm a bit sore now, though: quads, glutes, lower back and shoulders
are stiff. I think it's because I ws riding faster and having to take
more weight than usual on the pegs because of the bike hammering on
the braking bumps. Also I was getting more air over the jumps and one
or two of the landings were a bit firm.
I think cycling's just more of an aerobic exercise.

I've never ridden a quad. Or a glute, for that matter.

Funny you mention that. I had the experience of riding a quad a couple
of weeks back. All the rules about leaning on a bike are the opposite
    when you're riding a quad.

You can ride 'crossers slowly, too, y'know.

  16. It's all your fault, you bastard. Since last week I got all interested
in the bicycle again and started buying bits for it.

Scored a set of older Bomber shocks wiv 1" steerer stem and a suspended
seatpost. Then, just 'cos it was there and I always fancied one, I just
had to go and buy an alloy frame, you ****. Advantage of that one, of
course, is that it's got the newer sizes in it front and back. Mind you,
I'll probably find it's made in Bulgaria or summat and welded with camel
    snot.

What I'll do is gather the bits for a second bike and build one on the
new frame, keeping a balance between quality and pikeyness.

heheh, it's a slippery slope is "Shiny Bike Bit Syndrome".
Guaranteed to be made in the far east, where they're pretty damn good
at it. What make is it?
I did the same thing... the second bike ended up costing over 4
    grand...

  18. Totally anonymous atm - haven't recieved it yet; bankrupt stock, so
anybody's guess. I've a feeling 'bankrupt stock' means just about
    anything.
Yikes. There's no way I'd spend that amount, although the results look
    worth it on yours.

It'll be fine. 90% of aluminium frames made over there are made by
two companies, and they supply all the big manufacturers.
I figured I deserved it after mtbing for 20 years.
