So last Saturday morning en-route to B'ham, I was caught speeding in my cage
    doing *cough* 103mph [1][2]

Having never been caught speeding before what am I likely to face as in
    points, ban, fine etc? [3]

[1] Yes I do feel like a plonker.
[2] I hear you ask why on earth would anyone be speeding towards B'ham?
[3] I've already Google'd and the majority of websites all tell you what you
    get if you get Gatso'd.

What was the speed limit of the road? Motorway?

You might get a ban for doing over 99mph, but then again, you might not.

It was around Abingdon North, Northbound on the A34, so 70mph.

My 105mph nicking a few years ago got me a 28-day ban and about £200 fine.

You'll probably get something similar- or 6 points + the fine.

Lets see... unmarked car by any chance? VW Bora or something like that?

Note to anyone using the A34 - they are _exceedingly_ active on the stretch
between junction 13 at the M4 to beyond Oxford with unmarked vehicles.

That leads me to another couple questions.

    Can it be either:
    a) points + fine, or
    b) ban + fine, or
    c) all of the above?

If you had the choice of a) or b) which would you choose? I presume the
insurance company would wallop me either way but do the frown on a ban more?

Nope it was marked, though he was tucked up the slip road so I didn't see
him on the approach to the junction, and took me from behind (so-to-speak).

    <fx: looks at ticket>

It was the morning good visibility, not very busy [1] and dry road
conditions. All of which the Officer agreed with me in our chat. He
clocked me using his laser whilst up the slip road on the West Ilsley
junction [2]. He was tucked up the slip road so I didn't see
him on the approach to the junction.

    The Grounds state:
    "Offence - Excess Speed 70mph
    103mph at 176.9 metres
    cautioned at 0835 hours
    N.I.P. and Caution at 0843
    'No Reply To Caution'"[3]

[1] Except I was making progress and overtaking.
[2] yes I know I said Abingdon, people make mistakes.
[3] Didn't know what to say really, never been cautioned before.

You're doomed I tell you, doomed.

Not even worth an expensive lawyer unless you can prove conclusively that a
long ban will cost you your job.

My 108.4mph on the M6 (caught with VASCAR) got me 6 points and £350 fine.

Sounds like a plan. Though what would be considered "Proof" that a ban
would be detrimental? I written statement from my Boss, that if I get a ban
    I'd be fucked?

I did consider when he came to my window to ask me to join him, to say "Tag!
    Your it!" and drive off.

Are you a police officer responsible for traffic in the Manchester area?
    If so 6 points and a £200 fine. Otherwise a 30 day ban. :)

Seriously though you are looking at a ban. It might be worth turning up
to plead and looking suitably penitent. This worked for me as a poor
    student [1] when I was clocked doing 71 in a 30. I pleaded that I hadn't
seen the sign because it was so early in the morning (5:30 am) and this
coupled with the lack of traffic at that hour seemed to sway the mag
somewhat as I 'got away' with 3 points and a £130 fine.

The copper who pulled me was most put out at the time and didn't seem
impressed by my excuses or accidental attempted bribe and was talking
about bans and the like (over twice the limit).
The quicker you get here, the quicker you can f*ck off again and leave
us to enjoy our wonderful city!!

[1] Car repossessed about 6 weeks later so it didn't actually matter anyway!

I got a letter from my employers, gave it to my barrister at court who
presented it to the magistrates. Worked fine, but got me some ear-ache from
    work.

Sorry but how did you accidentally try to bribe the copper?
