    Hi folks.

Just to let you all know, I got in the mail today a note from a Kate
Meagher, Policy Advisor to the Minister for the Envirnment(NSW).

In this note, Kate says, and I quote:-

"DEC is currently in the process of amending the Regulations so that
marking and labelling requirements only apply to motorcycles
    manufactured after July 1988."

    regards,

For the benefit of those of us up in the peanut gallery... what
ramifications does that have? Does it close a loophole, does it open one up,
does it paint a previously grey area black or white or 24-bit colour?

Sorry....because it was an issue close to my heart, I was assuming
everyone else would know about it.

The regulations in NSW demanding that motorcycle exhaust systems have
stickers or labels on them providing set info.

It was actually worded such that it applied to all motorcycles.

The EPA, on their web-site mentioned something to the effect that they
didn't encourage the rule being applied to bikes prior to July 1988, but
    it still can be applied.

So, if they do indeed, amend the regulation it will make something
clearly black and white. It will also deny a pissed-off cop or epa type
the opportunity of writing me a ticket for non-labelled exhausts on
    three of my four bikes.

    regards,
    CrazyCam

The pink slip man mumbled about no label when I got the T done last
    week.

I just said calmly "pre-75" and he said no more.

The XT goes in for a bluey tomorrow, wonder if it will pass! This bod
seems less laid back than the fellow who used to do them there.

    Well, yes.

But, as you well know the wording of the reg. did (and still does) leave
old bikes still included in the labelling rubbish.
    It's got electricity again! :)

Yes. And I think he sort of thought it might apply but wasn't willing
    to push it.
Yes, and about the right amount too. Before it had rather too much!

If it passes then I'll be up to Moto Tumbi to get him to do some
remedial work on the seat and mudguard, then off to Alan for some seat
    work.

Just about to get my HD Superglide pink slipped. (Sounds perverse...). I
have a Undecim-84 brand exhausts (very very in-joke) and they are labelled.

(I am actually going into a Harley dealership for the test)

Doub't I will have a problem with Harley doing the test but would find
it interesting (although possibly expensive) to go to your tester Zebee!.

Old bikes are more trouble than they're worth, and they're shithouse to ride
    and worse to look at.

Unlike new bikes, which are more money than they're worth, desperately
worrying to ride, and an explosion in a Lego factory to look at...

Gary (why can't we just stick to postie bikes?)
