The same way it does on the M42, now. The hard shoulder leading up to the
accident is cleared extremely quickly when the signs all change telling
the drivers to get back into lane 1.
Ah, you're trying to imagine the scheme being used with the existing
setup! No, just forget about the old cameras and gantries that may be on
the M62 at the moment. Active Traffic Management uses different (and a
hell of a lot more) gantries, and until they have been built (which took
ages on the M42), the scheme isn't possible.

  2. Rip the handbrake out of the car and beat Mr Bitsy about the shins with
    it, you mean?

  3. Another thing - some cars switch on the brake lights with the handbrake.
This leads to the assumption, by the driver behind, that the driver in
    front is being lazy.

I find most people move over for me when I'm on my bike. The car's a bit
    geriatric (23 y/o) so struggles above 100.

    Although the bike is older.

Mine also, people either get out of the way or don't see me. Very
occasionally; once every one or two months? someone will try to block me
undertaking or not get the **** out of my way. Then again that's only
once every 3-5k or something like that.

Oh, another one who is more worried about liability, rather than the hassle
    of a damged car.
You prove very nicely your not worth talking to.

Well I hope he is mistaken, because I don't think that would be a good
feature. It sounds likely to be a confounded nuisance.

    Best wishes all,
    Dave.

No they're not. There's normal CCTV cameras on poles the length of
    the M42 stretch.

  12. I have direct experience of it, mind you it was probably a wiring fault,
    given the makers.

Some sort of fault, I'd suggest. Certainly wouldn't have passed C&U
    regs like that.

Old as in put up over the last two tears, in full service for less than
6months so far, about every 3-4 miles, and linked somehow to the
parttime sliproad traffic lights which have a satelite uplink attached
    to then, old.

They have the power to tell drivers what to do when it assists the flow
of traffic. As I understood it, they had all the traffic powers of a
full police traffic officer, but not all the police powers of a police
traffic officer. They can't arrest with any more authority than any
other citizen, but they can pull someone over and issue a fixed penalty
notice for offences where such punishments exist, or call for an officer
    should it be requried.
