F*ck - attempted break in.

Came home tonight to discover someone has attempted to force their way into
my garage by sticking I guess a crowbar between
the top of the door and the frame and pulling very hard.

Luckily (?!!!) all they seem to have managed to do is bend/deform the top of
the door and not break the lock.

Any one got any suggestions on improving the security of your standard type
of garage door (spring at the top, three bar lock, turn the handle and the
two metal bars push out at the sides)? I've done a few things but I'm not
actually going into them here as right now my paranoia doesn't know where to
look. This *is* a very low crime area and it seems very strange that they
went for my house when there are others with bloody BMW's and all sorts
    outside.

There are a few things that spring to mind... a few weeks back we had some
people come and try to quote us on new windows and doors - at an odd time.
At the time one of them asked me what bike it was... The other thing is I've
only recently got round to informing the DVLA I and the bike have moved
house... within a week someone tries to break into my garage.

Anyway, any suggestions on garage door reinforcement welcome.

Ewww, bastards. I assume none of the neighbours saw anything.
Is it really a low crime area? (seriously).
Fuckers, they should be caught, flogged in public then burned at the stake.

I have often seen these advertised, dunno how good they are.

My bike is chained to the floor by way of an FOAD ground anchor I concreted
in when I cast the base of the shed. If you decide to concrete something in
I have access to a 6" dry diamond core cutter. Alternatively, if your
garage door is fucked, replace it with a more secure one. Alternatively,
swap the gixxer for a CB500, they don't seem too popular with the more
    discerning thief.

Yup - the insurance is very low which would indicate it isn't a high risk
    area.
    Heh - considering that actually!!

I fitted two pairs of these to my double garage

    http://www.diy-store-uk.co.uk/item-Era+garage+lock+pk+2.html

I asked for all four locks to work off the same key. I also extended
the monitored alarm system to cover the garage.

I don't quite understand how for mortice locks attach to a garage door,
    buthen perhaps I'm missing something.

The concept of the big red thing outside being a "marker" occured to me
    too.. but then again.

Sh*t that's bad news glad they didn't get your bike [1]. At our old
house we had a door that sounds just like yours and the garage, which
was at the end of the garden got done a couple of times. In the end I
found the best method was to add three stable bolts on the inside into
the frame, one at the top and one in each side.

The ball ache was that I had to walk out of the garage through the other
entrance, which isn't always possible, our new garage only has one
entrance/exit. However at the old house thieves never managed to get in
    again.

If you've got a house alarm does it include your garage. We've just
added another sensor on our garage after I found I couldn't hear the
    bike alarm inside the house.

[1] I sh*t myself when we got burgled last month and both cars went that
they would take my bikes from the garage. Not sure whether the fact they
left both and took the cars says something about the state of my bikes:)

  19. Most scrotes back a nicked 4x4 with a spare wheel on the back into the
garage door to pop it out and those sort of doors locks are no good.
Easiest and possibly cheapest is a hasp and loop fitted to one or both
sides of the door at about two to three feet. With a padlock in both,
the door is *fixed* at both sides and cannot be removed. This forms a
barrier that makes getting anything out of the garage a climb over a
door barrier that made a lot of noise just to get like that.

  20. Just thought, attach a small nondescript box over the front of the
garage. Then put a small notice on the middle of the door:

"Smile you are being videoed while you stand here."

    I might work.
