I did the callaround today to find out the cost of transporting a bike from Sydney to far north

I called and asked, but they dont transport any further north than Noosa.

  2. I used bikes only once, they did a good job and a good price for door to
    door transport...

Although my brake leaver had some paint on it from somebody's helmet rubbing
into it - they don't guarantee helmets...

The next time my removalist said he would take it (for an extra 400 bucks
    mind you)

I got it back laying flat.. a blinker was bent and scratched up my exhaust -
they told me they don't normally do bikes and insurance doesn't cover it. so
    all damage is owner responsibility..

I question there methods of laying it flat, they said it was because it
would snap the side stand if they kept it upright from all the vibrations?
He also came with in mm of dropping the thing on its top out the back of the
truck trying to get it upright...

So, you know what id be doing next time..

Uh ... well ... okay. So long as you're happy, I guess that's the
    main thing. You nuffie.
Yeah, I'd far rather lie it down on the fairings and tank than
risk damage to that expensive side stand ...

  5. Yep, naked bike luckily, the exhaust already had scratches on it, and the
blinker bent back... so I wasn't that pissed off, but I did ask for it to be
    replaced :)

I haven't heard back for about a year and ive traded the bike in now, so
    yeah...

It's been 22 years since I did it but I remember the run from Cairns to
Townsville over the other side of the range was fairly interesting.
I did the coast run 10 years ago with four people + luggage in a Suzuki
Swift and I was happy with the "boring"ness of the 110kph highway.

    From Sydney? I'd say 1900.

Rockhampton is generally referred to as Central Qld, Townsville as North
Qld and Cairns as Far North Qld so I'd probably put Mackay into "Central"
or perhaps "Lower North[?]". (http://www.mackayholidays.info/ says
    "central")
Considering Townsville is 1400km and Cairns is 1750km from the state
capital Brisbane (and there's still another almost 1000km to go) it's no
wonder they feel excluded and rumble about forming the state of North
    Queensland (or North Australia) occasionally.

Good mob, used them for 7 bikes from Melb to Bris last Nov
Cut cost a fair bit by going depot to depot.
The drop-offs/pickups are far less costly if done by yourself.

    cheers

    *nods*
i heard figures of 2000kms bandied about by my mate and got a bit exuberant.
but yeah, aside from counting mozzie bites, what else is there to do in central qld -> fnq?

  15. Last time I paid to move a bike in a truck, it was the guy that owns the
supermarket in Ceduna, he carried a broken bike(and trailer) from Poochera
to Adelaide for us for $150. Maybe if you ask him nicely. Most interesting
sight was watching the front end loader poad it into the truck.

    61.9.191.5:

    Bullshit

    Mackay -> Eungella -> Mt Coolon -> Burdekin Dam -> Ravenswood -> Mingela ->
Herveys Range -> Hidden Valley -> Mt Fox -> Camel Ck -> Blenco Ck - Red Rd
-> Ravenshoe -> Cairns (all on gazetted road, no private property or
    permits needed)

Has to be on of the most intersting rides around and I bet Aarons left nut
you won't see the local constabulary once.
