I agree with you totally but he's a shoo-in now, surely.

True, but that's more indicative of what sort of prat/sore loser Alonso is
in my view. He's still bitter about getting whooped by a rookie and that he
didn't get the royal treatment he expected.

    From yesterday's Guardian -

Perhaps there was no greater tribute than the one paid by Alonso, who
arrived in the McLaren garage to congratulate the man who had just
taken his title as the youngest champion in formula one history. The
two have been viewed as bitter enemies since they clashed while both
were in the McLaren team last season. "Well done," the holder of the
2005 and 2006 titles said, putting his arm around the shoulders of the
    newly crowned champion.

The vanquished Massa was equally gracious in defeat. "We need to
congratulate Lewis," he said after winning the race - his sixth of the
season, to Hamilton's five - but missing the title by a single point.
"He did a great championship. I know how to win and I know how to lose
    - it's part of life, part of our experience."

I find media-friendly personalities distracting or/and dishonest, which is
why I'm not a Rossi fan despite his ability. Even worse when you aren't
really a people's person, like Schumacher. Watching him trying to be
media-friendly made me cringe. I prefer my racers to be superbly talented on
the track and shy, tight-lipped bastards off it, which is why I liked Doohan
    so much.

On the other hand, Vettel seems to be a genuinely pleasant and likeable guy,
I wonder how he'll evolve once he gets in a seriously competitive car.

Fair enough then, although I presume he was pretty much obliged to
congratulate the person taking the title of youngest ever champion from him.
As for Massa, I felt for him and wouldn't have minded if he had won it
instead. I like the fact that he wasn't the centre of attention all year,
worked hard and proved to be a true contender, whereas I thought he was just
    average.

  15. Jasmine declared it to be common knowledge among the TS community and
that her (Shania's) name used to be Fred.

What I found interesting was the reaction from some blokes who just
couldn't handle the possibility that they fancy a woman who may turn out
    to have been a bloke.

Not me - I'd still give her one.

I suspect that's driven, like most things, by the mass media. It
doesn't seem to affect world champions in lesser known sports. E.g. the
person who's probably Britain's most successful champion ever (12 world
championships) doesn't seem to get slagged off.

I was just about to post this - that's the term they use

I thougth Mansell was a whinging brummie git. And what exactly is
there to 'be proud of', exactly?
I think it's better to be slightly critical of those who make it to
the top, as opposed to turning them into living saints like the yanks
    do.

I dunno, it's a shame that none of the gold medal winners form the
Olympics will get a look in at the Sports Personality Of The Year now.

Allegedly the atmosphere was so bad last season he said after one of
the drivers' briefings it was like they were all "ready to shoot me".
It was one of the races when he could have sewn up a rookie year
    championship.
