It's got shaft or belt drive otherwise you'd be keeping the Scottoiler
and asking me to fit it to the new bike, unless the new bike isn't new
    and already has one.

At a rough guess I'm going to say you've decided to finally let
everyone know your true sexuality and you're getting a Harley.

I would fucking laugh if it is. Local shop had one brought in by the
RAC yesterday - corroded pin on the reg/rec had snapped off in the
unit, requiring a new reg/rec under warranty. The bike is 8 months old.

Got to admit, that's even shiter than Bonwick's Tenere woes. Mine's
going in for a check up and to have the connection greased and sealed
    before it gives me problems.

It makes me wonder if they're using the same supplier as Yamaha
because apparently this problem isn't confined to the Tenere. The
female connectors in the block can push up in the block connector
leaving a weak connection and from that point onwards the damage sets
    in.
I have to admit that I knew I should pack the connector with silicon
grease after the first time it let me down but a bit of research left
me understanding that Yamaha were replacing the wiring harness and
reg/rec if serious problems occurred and once the problem had occurred
there was a good chance it'd happen again until the modified parts
were fitted. Packing it would have delayed the issue and it might well
have only happened again after the warranty had expired.

Unless you can convince eBay you're in the UK, you can't even bid...

With the prices of new Japanese bikes rising as they have done in the
past few months[1], the European manufacturer's offerings seem
positively bargain-like nowadays. I was taking a stickybeak round Taz
M/cs in Peterboghorror the other day, and saw RSV4 Aprilias priced at
about the same as an new stock R1 and the Shiver 750GT with ABS at
about the same price as the 2010 Versys is now. A new GSXR1000 is only
a few hundred quid off the cost of a Ducati 1198, and I know full well
what I'd rather throw that sort of money at if I was looking for a bike
    in that marketplace.

With Jap price increases going the way they are I can see the BMW
S1000RR being a big seller because sports bike riders aren't
traditionally brand loyal[2] and buying a BMW/Ducati/Aprilia on price
alone is now a more viable proposition than it ever has been

I still think the new Multistrada 1200S is way fucking overpriced
though. It's a shame because I'd really like one.

    [1] By **** am I pleased I bought mine when I did.
    [2] Champ excepted.
