Funnily enough though, if you tell someone that you don't support any of the
political parties (and don't vote), some UKRM types then bleat that if you
didn't vote it's your own fault and you're not allowed to complain about it.

Until ballot papers have "None of the Above" as an option, I see not
supporting them as a perfectly valid choice.

dependant upon your definition of "near", of course. I'd say a 20
minute walk away was "quite near" at best.

Dan White emerged from their own little world to say
If we introduced compulsory voting[0] then that is perfectly reasonable.
At least that way your vote would be included in the statistics that
recorded the proportion of votes that each candidate polled.

Don't hold your breath though. The Electoral Commission is currently
against the idea and a recommendation from a Select Committee in 1998
to engage in a public debate on the subject has been ignored despite
Jack Straw saying "that's an excellent idea"[1].

    You don't have to, because...

I'm just going around accusing everyone of being one - and sooner or
    later I'll be right.

To be fair though, a posting name of "Wizard" is a bit camp, isn't it.

So why not write "NONE OF THE ABOVE" on your ballot paper?

Because I don't want my ballot paper to be counted as "spoiled". I want it
to count for "I don't trust any of you cunts to do the job properly. ****
off and come back with someone else". Where "None of the above" scores more
votes than the candidates, they should not be allowed to run in the
    re-election.

    Dan White, Mar 6, 2006

  15. Hmm. I spoil my paper so that my vote is counted, but none of the cunts
gets it. An uncast vote is worthless.

You try finding an all alloy XK120 now. All of the barn finds are
accounted for now and there aren't any to be restored any more. I
stopped supplying trim for alloy bodied 120s because it turned out that
every bodyshell was different and none of the interior trim was the same
between two cars made in the same week.
All production XK140s were of all steel construction, as were all
production XK150s. Both models rotted as badly as each other, and as
badly as any other Jaguar of the period. E-Types rotted at the same rate
as any other car built around that time.

You've got to remember that the MOT wasn't introduced til the early 60s,
and that's what sent a huge number of old motors to the scrapyards, not
just the rust they suffered. Prior to that, as long as it was able to
power itself it was allowed on the road.

The rubber seals thing is a matter of confusion, it has been since
people started restoring them. Having spoken to a few old blokes who had
a hand in building them, it would appear that they could have left the
factory with body coloured seals between the wings and body, or black
seals, or even seals that matched the hood colour on the DHC and
    Roadsters.

They're old Jaguars, they were built with whatever the factory could
afford to buy in at the time. Some of the anal muppets who collect and
restore them just can't get their heads round the fact that although
they may be quite desireable classic cars now, back then they were throw
away cheaply built sports cars and could have left the factory with all
    manner of differences.

I tried telling some of my customers this when I was involved in the
classic Jaguar restoration market. You can't tell most of these people
anything, they always know more than the guys who built the things.
There's only one collector that I would trust to know anything and
everything about XKs and E-Types, he's a guy called Richard Porter. He
is sympathetic to the views I expressed earlier.

Why? I don't want to do the job. Explain why that means I shouldn't be able
to object to *other* people doing it, particularly ones I believe are
    unsuitable.
