You always come out with this though Ace. You moved away and have no
wish to move back, not only, but the absolute lawlessness and lack of
respect in this country must have been a contributing factor in some
    way .

There's a world of difference between what these thugs are up to
nowadays and what we did 'when we were lads'.

And I also don't believe you'd be so charitable should someone take
your bike for a spin and smash it up for the fun of it.

Lack of parental control and responsibility is where this is at, and
the teachers, police and parents are powerless to discipline anyone or
anything. So this is going to self perpetuate through the next
    generations.

To be honest, I can't wait to leave this godforsaken place (again) and
leave society in the UK collectively to put up with the mess they've
    contributed to.

Not at all. We actually live in France, and have been burgled and had
the car 'keyed' since we've been here, so I can share the sense of
frustration and helplessness. OTOH I've also spent time with some of
the type of 'scum' responsible, and you know what? They're just
people, the same as you and me.

The gut reaction is understandable, but I get the impression that many
of the folk posting here genuinely feel that retribution, if it could
be properly addressed, is a solution for the problems we all see. It's
the same argument that's used by the capital punishment mob and is
    equally flawed.

I think the thing here is that it wasn't just one car - it appears (on
the information available) they deliberately set out to cause as much
destruction to a private and very valuable collection of classic cars as
possible. There was no attempt to make off with the cars - no other
purpose than to destroy another's property.

No they shouldn't be strung up by the balls and given a public flogging
but they aren't like any "bunch of kids" I have ever known.

No. Most of the stuff that happens happened when I wer' lad as well.
Mindless vandalism? Check. Rampant crime? Check. Gangs on the street
and? Check. OK, so maybe _we_ didn't go that far, but it's far from a
new phenomenon. All that's happened is that most of the posters here
have turned into grumpy old men of the Daily Mail persuasion.
It's been done, several times when I was at college in Liverpool. And
you know what? I never once thought that the perps should be killed.
As it has through the past.
Oh well, I'm with you on that. "Move somewhere less pikey".

  9. Utter rubbish. Utter, utter utter rubbish.

This country is still one of the safest places to live in the world. It
is one of the places where you are less likely to be robbed, burgled or
    mugged in the world.

To suggest that we live in a state of 'utter lawlessness' is just plain
stupid and reflects badly on your awareness of a) this country and b)
    the rest of the world.
Please don't let the door hit your backside on the way out.

    Always was at heart.
My language was carefully chosen. Of course we didn't, but others did.
I've gone along with vandalism to extent of breaking the odd
streetlight (or been with a group that did, at any rate, aged 15 or so
and wanting to 'fit in'). It's all just a question of degree.

It would be nice, however, if there was some sort of sense that they
would be shown the error of their ways, rather than being 'punished' in
a way that is nothing but a badge of honour or utterly ineffective.

This is not "stringing them up" - but equally it's not our current
    system either.

My thoughts on the matter (FWIW) are actually broadly similar, but the odd
knee jerk reaction is not always a bad thing.

However, the type of individuals who would carry out such mindless vandalism
for the sheer joy of it are most probably beyond any normal method of being
shown the error of their ways.

It seems to me that there is a large underclass festering in this country,
of young, disaffected people who have no respect for anyone or anything, and
are only interested in proving how hard they are, and where they stand in
the hierarchy of their peer group. The lengths they seem to go to in order
to prove this "hardness" or get their jollies seems to know no bounds. When
I was a teenager I was no angel, but the "crimes" usually were pretty much
victimless, i.e drinking / smoking underage, or just being a bit of nuisance
to the local copper. Sure, the odd moped got nicked, but usually this would
be a known local psycho, who my group of friends knew to steer clear of.

I cannot begin to understand the thought processes that go on with these
yobs, they seem to me to almost revel in their awfulness. I guess the
easiest finger to point is towards their parenting, or lack of it, but
having said that, I know that the vast majority of single parents (who
normally get the blame) do a bloody good job, against many odds.

The reason why I tend to immediately want to see violence inflicted upon
this type of individual is a) pure bloody retribution "give 'em a taste of
their own medicine", and b) I reckon there is no other language they would
understand. On the other hand, in the case of the trashed Jags, pulping the
little bastards won't repair the cars, and will most certainly make the
fuckers even harder and more anti social. Might make the victim feel a bit
better though (although, in reality probably not).

Regrettably, violence will most certainly lead to more violence, so whilst
it satisfies the immediate urge to do something about the problem,
    ultimately it's probably self defeating.

The question is, how do you effectively deal with this type of antisocial
behaviour? Would bringing back public flogging change behaviour such as
this? Who knows, it'll never happen and the problem will just get worse, as
the human rights and deprived backgrounds of the perps will always take
prescedence over any kind of justice.

Fucked if I know where it will end, I don't associate with any scrotes and
never have, and both of my kids have grown up to be fairly normal people
[1], so they don't hang out with any undesireables either.

[1] Well, for teenaged and related to me values of normal.
