Probably because I always use the clutch when I do a u-turn. I
apologise... it wasn't supposed to be a riddle.

You'll be happy to know, Clem, that in recent years, Kawasaki have
improved things somewhat. My ZX12R had no problem finding neutral when
you get to the lights. Kawasaki invented Positive neutral finder. When
you're stopped (or slowing to a stop I think) you can only choose
neutral or first. When you're stopped at the lights on a greasy road,
it's bucketting down rain, there are puddles and white lines and oil on
the road, and you'd rather get that 180HP down to the road in a higher
gear, you can only select 1st or neutral. It mustn't rain at the
    kawasaki factory.

If the bike in question has got a clutch lock out you just have to add

This may not be a universal truth, but works on a Triumph Street Triple,
    a Kawasaki 750 Turbo and, I'm pretty sure, a BMW K100RS.

Way back when Gerry and his crew were lads...

    before fun extras like crutches...

All that messy reproducing was done asexually (I don't want to think
    about how) [1]

Since I'm already in neutral, coz I'm sitting at the traffic lights...

why would It matter how long it took?

I "tested" braking a clutch cable yesterday, by getting to the front
of the lights, thinking I was in neutral, and letting go of the
    clutch.

I wasn't thrown into the path of rampaging trucks or vicious
pedestrians, I didn't fall off, but I *did* feel pretty stupid. The
bike just stalled. I'm not even sure it moved more than rising up on
the suspension, but if it did, it didn't move more han a couple of
    centimetres.

Of course, my commuter isn't a powerful beast, and I wasn't revving
the bejeesus out of it for a quick or clutchless take off. ;^)

I guess that was the point I failed to make, that the clutch in step was
    missing :)

And add BMW K1100LT to that list - in fact, I reckon all of the K75/100/1100
    series.

Well, I *always* stop the engine using the killswitch. The idea was to
make it an automatic response, so that if for some reason my engine starts
revving to the moon while I'm at highway speed I'd reach for the
killswitch rather than taking a hand off the bars to go to the key...

Actually, the "engine revving to the moon" at highway speed isn't a
problem. It's much more of a problem at lower speeds/gears where the
    effect would be more pronounced.

    Fair enough.
Just to clarify the previous response to Andrew, Stay Upright courses
I've done over the past few years (all of them) taught (while waiting
for a light change): engine idling, clutch in, first gear on, left
foot down, right foot HOLDING brake on, right hand managing throttle
to ensure engine keeps running (I assume that means ready to hit kill
switch if clutch cable snaps but for some reason that was not
mentioned :). On green light reduce pressure on right foot brake (but
keep brake on so emergency stopping between lights is safer) and move
off quickly to prevent a rear ender.
We may agree or disagree with any or all of that but that's what was
    taught.

    They went and fucked themselves.

Actually, your body is producing thousands of new living cells every day,
    asexually.
When you donate platelets at the local Red Cross, a single donation is
13,000,000,000 platelets. Your body can do this every two weeks so they
regenerate at the rate of 400 million an hour. That's 100,000 per second.
That's a lot of asexuality. Doesn't that make you feel a bit.... dirty?
